First of all I wish to all of you all the best in 2014. I want to share something with you. I ordered two C8R2202 recone kits from authorized JBL dealer some time ago. One kit was delivered very fast but I waited for the second couple of months. If I ignore this waiting time which is too long for such company like JBL I was surprised with extremely poor quality of the second recone kit. I must say that if these recone kits were done at HaDM factory I can suspect poor quality of all JBL products made in Mexico. There is also visual difference which is not significant but irritates me from start as I opened shipping boxes. Since speakers are supposed to be used in hifi home environment I hope you understand my complains. First kit received is good. As I am informed these were the last two kits available. Pictures are following.

Difference in glue size from cones. In real life it is very visible

Glue is not equal around former, even there are places without it. It looks like child played with glue. This is not my first JBL recone kit I bought and I see this the first time job done that way.

Almost same situation. I am not sure if this is visible.

More pictures. Difference between first and second one.

I am not sure if this is normal. Also it seems that coil in not perfectly round and it will be difficult to mount this kit to frame. I will see what dealer will say.

I am posting pictures of kits. I do not want that somebody thinks I am talking about non JBL kits. Instead of making kits good they stopped producing them, instead of making good shipping boxes for (consumer) drivers they stopped selling them :( I am not sure if this is good direction at all.

Wow, the 2nd one's coil looks burnt  The whole kit looks plain BAD.
What's the DCR of both kits?

zeljkor

Both coils have DCR of 5.9 Ohm. It seems they used different color voice coil glue or whatever it is.

FYI after i got C8R2121 pair from US plant with some issues (cracks and a small dot on cone) please note what JBL Pro in Europe said ... "after talking to 2 of our specialists in house we do not accept your second complaint. It is not warrantable! We are JBL Pro and not Hifi oriented. The "issue" with the cone kit is only cosmetical and will have no influence on sound. If you really insist on it, you can give the cone kit back and we will credit it for goodwill. But be aware that even if you wait for a next cone the danger is great that it will have also "issues". If it is so, we will NOT again take the cone kit back! " :dont-know:

be aware, the color doesn't affect the sound :p but not the geometry of the voice coil ...:o:

Another "Made in Mexico" example :crying:

It seems they used different color voice coil glue
and perhaps the production process has changed too ?

Interesting. But they have a nice (high) price for kits. For something in that range I can expect quality at least.

Hi
Neglecting the visual aspect of the second (BAD) C8R2202 kit, I think that VC connection would produce VC rubbing, so it is evident that ANY of expect-able QUALITY CONTROL has not been done.

Looks like a pure quality control issue; training, skill, process. By contrast, I recently purchased a pair of D16R2441 diaphragms (Mexico) from a JBL dealer and they were delivered in two weeks and appear (and sound) to be "good goods." Mike

Hi Mannermusic,

Lucky Yo are. From time to time on the Lottery some of the 'participant' has become a winner, but here dealing with the pro type industrial products, there must not to be a kind of lottery-luck.
I believe that the quality control has been established just to prevent 'a lottery luck' .

Hallo!

I have to ask, why did you wait so long for the second one. It schould arrive at the same time. Maybe your authorized dealer get the second kit from somewhere else.
Maybe pirate copy?

All of the JBLs I have in my house is "Made in Mexico", seems good here. If looking at the papercone from outside, no differences here. Not, that I have inspected them inside.

JBL dealer says that they ordered two at same time but JBL delivered only one. They believe this one was on stock in Denmark at that time. Second was coming from USA and I waited almost half a year.

Maybe it is time to ask the right questions to your authorized dealer. Namely, where they are manufactured. Can it be that they are manufactured from another dealer somewhere else. This has to be investigated.

How do you know that they are Made in Mexico, is it written on the boxes?

Well till now I received many recone kits. Some from Mexico and some from Northridge. This shipment boxes look same as all I saw till this date. Also markings on cones and stickers with numbers seems like coming from JBL. Of course this does not guarantee anything. But this is authorized dealer so I suppose they are ordering using JBL system.

I will contact them after holidays. I am afraid they will only offer me refund since this kit is now discontinued, and I need good kit not money. I will see how this will progress.
Thanks,

Hi

To me it looks like somebody is trying to make better income by reducing the cost of making parts. In it self thats okay! But at some point it will do something to the quality of the products and thats NOT okay!
If you put the two kits on a scale are there then a difference? Does the spider and surround have the same stiffness?

Sometimes i hate optimizing!! But i must say Im surprised that they can not even guarantee the physical looks.... who in the speakerindustry even the cheapest ones can not guarantee that the speakercomponents will look the same, and build the same way...

JBL... where are you going?

Well I received also good kits from Mexico. But with this one I must say I am not happy. From my perspective quality of particular kit I received is low. Sorry that I am saying this , but is reality.

few years ago, just at the beginning of the Mexico adventure, i had the opportunity to choose between 2 pairs of C8R2235 conekits, one from Northridge and the other from new Mexico plant, and finally the winner of that day was ... Mexico :dont-know:

The thing is that these bad reviews are backed up with pics as you can see it. We are all here because we appreciate JBL equipment but things like this couldn't have happened few years ago. Or not so often at least.

Anyway, i hope that contacting JBL will solve the problem.

Happy new year to you to tovarish :)

JBL , as I expected, confirmed to me that they are very serious company. They approved replacement kit and I expect to have it soon. My advice for them would be to do improvement in process of quality control for spare kits. Generally I bought many recone kits and only this one was bad. At the end it seems I did not have luck with particular one.
