Anyone heard of a JBL M41 ( K140 lookalike )??

First post, so I hope I'm observing protocol...??
I have acquired a 15 inch JBL speaker from a Leslie 925. The JBL looks like a K140 but is labelled M41. Does anyone have any info on this speaker? Is it a K140 rebranded and built especially for Leslie? Anyone??

I'm inclined to believe that it is a K140, however, the previous responder regards it as an E140?? Can you enlighten me further?

Much Appreciated Odd. Does this suggest the M41 is closer to an E140 than a K140?

E140 is listed in that table as it was the currently available replacement at the time... the K140s having been discontinued.
Also, the 'goes into' list showing the K140 replacement kit for reconing the M41 supports the "more like a K140" theory.

K140 has alnico magnet and E140 has ferrite magnet. The 41 has alnico which means its closer to the K140 than the E140

Thanks all for your interest and assistance. I have a K140 so when the M41 arrives I'll compare the two sound-wise and report back. I'm expecting (and hoping) :bouncy: that the M41 sounds just like the K140. You can hear the wrappings on the strings with the K140 :D.

Wish I could tell you Tim. The bloke who harvested the M41 retired from live gigging. I think the 925 became too heavy and cumbersome for him to drag around and the missus forced him to trade the Pickup for a Prius. He sold me the JBL, then I reckon he buried his mother-in-law in the 925 cabinet...:dont-know:

OK, I placed the M41 in a single 15 inch plywood box and played guitar through it. It sounds sublime - exactly as I expected it would, and identical to my K140 (which makes perfect sense as you fellas have reliably informed me that it is indeed a K140). Solid, clear ringing lows with the kind of string definition and alnico magnet compression that I've come to love. Clear and present mids and trebles with outstanding definition. This is a clean, loud, efficient speaker. I know these are generally used as a bass speaker but the frequency response is perfect for guitar. It is indeed a tremendous guitar speaker, particularly if you're into Surf and big, really strong clean tones. It loves reverb and gives back that 3D room-filling, swirling, pan-aural vibe. Even with the EQ flat, this speaker is wonderful. It is VERY responsive to tone controls - the bass notes can get huge if you want them to, but they stay defined (and I'm using a powerful all tube amp with a quartet of 6L6 tubes and massive transformers - it can get very loud). The trebles have that ability to be sharp if you want them to, and I love to flick to the single coil bridge pickup for that clean country snap and twang. You can hear the wrappings on the strings with this speaker. I played out last night and during soundcheck, one of the patrons said "That is a nice sound!" I think one of the greatest compliments that I can pay this speaker is that it has this ability to respond incredibly well to playing dynamics. When I'm going for that clean, jangly chord strumming sound, I get this wonderful, smooth compression from the JBL - no particular frequency seems to dominate. When you're doing single note runs and you lay into the guitar a bit, you get this snap and twang with amazing detail. I love the M41 (K140)!
