2380/2447

Does anybody know if there is an adapter available to fit the 2380 horn (2 in) to a 2447 driver (1.5 in):(
I have 2447s with an unidentified horn and was also wondering if the 2380 is a good choice for home stereo use?
I would like to use it in system without a tweeter so I need goods high frequency extension.
Is a 2382a a better horn or are there better alternatives?

JBL made a 1 1/2 inch similar to the 28xx series. I think it was called the 2381 and was used in many of the sr47xx speakers. It was never marketed as component, but for a long time was available as a part on the horn parts list. You might check that. Whether this horn is suitable for home hi fi is another question.

Try to ID the horns you already have. Hopefully they're the proper 235x series, which are designed for the 2447. See JBL Technical Note, Volume 1, Number 21.

I don't think they are OEM JBL as they are aluminum castings and the mounting stud holes are re drilled as they didn't really line up with the studs on the drivers.
They actually look like a larger version of the 2370 but aluminum with similar reinforcing ribs on the large surfaces on the outside of the horn.

They don't really look like the JBL horns for the 2447 that I've found in the library section. (2352)
I thought that the OEM horns for the 2447 were fiberglass.

Those certainly are not a 2380 knock off. Its not even a cd horn. Maybe exponential. But not cd, no diffraction slot.

I bet they wouldn't be too bad for home use. P audio makes a 1.5 to 2 inch if you don't have any luck finding the jbl adapter.

I know it's not a 2380, I found some of those on EBay and was wondering if it would work on the 2447 with an adapter.

Look up spheric wave tractrix horns also in 1.5" for the 2447.
Philip Newell recommends a axi-symmetric horn (round) as he commissioned research that found that round horns sound less like horns and more like dynamic loudspeakers.
Also the horn had to be kept short or it would start to change in sound character.

I don't have any personal experience with stereolab horns. But I've heard nothing but good stuff about them. Do yourself a favor a check out azurahorns too. There very good too and at a great price.

Check out Auto-tech (http://www.diysoundgroup.com/horns/autotech-horns.html) horns as well. Especially their LeCleach (JMLC) horns. I have seen elliptical (EJMLC) horns from Auto-tech, but these are not on this site.

Round horns do beam some, be prepared to have a narrow sweet spot and maybe adjust the filter.

Tractrix horns works better if mounted on a baffle.
