I am looking for recone-kits for my K-110`s and I´m not shure if these are still available...

I got offers for K/E-110 recone-kits... The sellers keep telling me, they`re well suited for both, K-Series and E-Series....
To my ears the K-110 sounds less harsh than the E-110. So I don`t want mine to sound like E-110`s after reconing them...
Is this due to the Alnico- vs. Ferrit-Magnet ?

Or is there any difference in the cone, voicecoil, former, etc... between K- and E-Series ?
Is the original cone-assembly from JBL identical in both series ?

Thanks a lot,
Olaf

Hi, Olaf,

Here is a seller that's offering at least one recone kit for the K110:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/281175201325?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I have no idea if there are more from the same seller, but might be worth a question to the seller to see. Good luck, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

there are differences in the kits over the decades when the original D120 became the D120F ( to satisfy surf guitar guys who were melting the VC glue with their volume sustains ) to the better adhesives and surround on the K's and then to the last version, the higher powered E

The E series has the coil wound onto an aluminum former where the K was paper...some early K's used D kits and some early K/D kits the former had ventilation holes...

Yes they are a little different but you can't buy any of them anymore from JBL so.....

@ Mark:

Thanks a lot for that link, but I actually need the 16ohm kit....

@ Subwoof:

Great info`s, thanks!!

The k-Series former was made out of paper ( Kapton, right ?) and the E-Series out of aluminum.... But both data-sheets say 75w sinewave for the 10"...
As you allready said, E-Series would has to be capable of more power...

I´m going to use these as midrange drivers and I´m actually not shure if the K-110 will really handle high soundpressure with modern music....

What does a 2123 sound like when compared to an E-110 ?

Morning, Olaf,

Though I have not used my own 2123 drivers, as of yet, I have used the K110's in the old days (playing music) and think the 2123 would be much more smooth sounding than the K110's, which are sort of peaky in response, if memory serves. I was going to use some E110's that I got from Todd, but gave up on that idea after comparing the comments of some friends here, and realizing that, for me, at least, the E110's are better for SR than Hi Fi. For what it's worth, I'm guessing you would have far less ear fatigue if you used something like the 2123, and more ear fatigue if you used the K110. Just a thought.... Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc
