Giskard....

Thanks! Cross-referencing with the "Home" cabinets price list you posted last month, which lists $500 ea for the 4312's ('84), are these prices also, "each", as in per cabinet?

I'm sure back then they seemed expensive, but I'd bet there isn't a one of us who wouldn't leap at those prices, today! ;)

But those prices DID seem expensive back then! But when you bought JBL in `83 you knew you had the baddest shit on the block! And JBL was the way to go back then!

Scott.. Man you are exactly right. In 1970, I thought I was hot shit with my Large Advents, AR table and HK integrated till my younger brother came home wirh a pair of L 100's, that romped my Advents. Next day sold the Advents and moved in a pair of L- 166's and never looked back.:) West Coast ever since Baby :)

Both my dad and my uncle had a pair of JBL L-300,s! I used to like listening to Emerson, Lake, and Palmers Pictures at an Exhibition on them.

My dad had them powered with a McIntosh MC-2300 and they just rocked.

My Mom didnt like these speakers. Too much punchy bottom for her taste, but me and pop loved em!

Scott..Sounds like your pop is a pretty cool Dude. My Dad, who we just lost, HATED all that bass coming through the basement floor, but it was listening to him playing an old Gibson flat-top that made me appreciate music as a kid. HOLD ON TO THOSE GREAT MEMORIES:)
Regards!

He didnt like the JBL sound at all. He said Klipschorns and AR were the way to go! My dad had a pair of AR-3a speakers. The JBL was the move.

TAD Huh? Blasphemy:) What are you hearing that you like about the TAD 1603. Have you installed any in your system?

YOU guys bought back alot of memories, one of those times was when I had just finished building one of my first JBL systems around 1979,Roberts reel to reel(man, the sound that thing could put out),sae 2100l preamp 2 altec 9440 amps ,playing ten years after-crickle wood green, I get a few taps on the back, its my dad just home from work, screamin, face cherryred but I couldnt hear a word he was saying, after things settled down one of the people down the street came by to inform my dad he could hear it two blocks away and it had been going on most of the afternoon, that was the summer I moved out-JBLWOLF

TAD Huh? Blasphemy:) What are you hearing that you like about the TAD 1603. Have you installed any in your system? My dad and my uncle had this idea for the surf av side of their building which was empty at the time. They opened the bumper cars in March of 73. The Himalaya rides had music, and so it seemed natural to add music to the bumper cars and lighting and ride em in the dark! Like cruisin listening to tunes at night!

Success was instant. The music of the early 70,s through mid 90,s was always great! they opened up with four A7,s and a McIntosh 2105 amp, Mc MX-113 preamp/tuner, JVC 8 track and a Dual 1229Q turntable.

In 1976 because of Saturday Night Fever my uncle and dad decided to buy a BIG Disco sound system, add more lighting and go with the disco revolution. Every year the system grew and grew and grew! We liked that super thumpin rump shakin ball vibratin bass. The people did too!

Soon we were famous for our sound and the music we played. Altec was used because at the time their wasnt anything else quite as efficient. and you needed to have efficient stuff as amps werent as powerful as they are today! And we liked Altec 15,s. warm sounding! JBL 18,s had that punchy bottom and we had some Gauss 18,s too! We had tweeters that we kinda made, using 8 Altec 808-8A drivers with tangerines on Community SQ-90 fiberglass horns that I still have and swear to this day blows away ANY JBL tweeter sonically! We liked JBL 2395 lenses/w 2441 drivers for mids which I still have and use!

Tad-1603,s. well, Rex, JBL today has a different sound then what we grew up on. The JBL 2226 does not have as nice and clean sounding a bottom as the TAD, and in my opinion, the TAD goes up higher than the JBL 2226. Yes I have some, and I do like them. The TAD sound is so clean. And the bass just purrs. The definition they have in the bass is fantastic! I am not saying Classic JBL wasnt great, but rather, JBL today isnt as good as it should be!

I thought they were by far more expensive in France. From what I remember they were also sold in some Audiophile shops in Paris (TAIEB auditorium was used to sell them).

The 4333 was closer to 3750 $ (if an Euro=1$) and the 4350/55 was sold about twice the price.

Second hand are still for sale from time to time at quite an expensive price as I bought last year two-second hand 4355 speakers for 4500 Euro.

The price chart you posted starts with 1977.
I don't recall seeing it before, but could you post retail prices on some of the earlier pro models, like the 4320 and 4341s?
Thanks very much!

Old JBL Pro Studio Monitor Price List (http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=2246&postcount=1)
I think alot of the allure with the legacy Studio Monitors is that they can be had quite reasonably, which makes me happy. They offer a nice price/performance ratio for alot of people. I think everyone should get a chance to own a pair of the old monitors if they so choose. They really were a ton of fun.
