I just got a pair of 4649b at a yard sale:D and I want to use them for HT not SR. Some one said to change the subs and the 10" mids and tweek the crossover. I am thinking about swapping out the mids and maybe adding a eletronic crossover. Somone said to swap the subs as they don't go as low as some others. I have a sono tube sub to go down low, so should I keep the E155 18" for the punchy stuff? Also I love that they are 4 ohm not 8 , They are loud without an amp with a yamaha rxz1 pushing them ! does jbl make a good 10" mid that is 4 ohms to replace mine ? The room is only 12x12 wood floor and low celings.

Whoah there. Start with pics, I'm not seeing anything on the googles. I wouldn't suggest playing with part swaps, but rewiring for active filters might not be a bad idea if you have teh ability to design your filter. They're probably a fine score and should serve you well, but we don't know your ability, what exactly you've scored, etc.

I don't know what an active filter is, as far as what I can do , I might could make a circuit board if I had a schematic.

An Active filter, or 'crossover' can be found through a Google search [basically, the signal is electronically divided].
The 4698B already has a "Passive filter, or crossover built in. If you have a good look at where you connect the cables; you'll see a
separate socket "for Bi-amping"...
Already done for you! Don't go swapping ANY drivers until you've had a listen FIRST! You just may be 'surprised'.....! at the sound!!!

the E155 460 mm (18 in) low frequency transducer, an E110 250 mm (10 in) transducer, and 2404H

10 inchers: 127, 2120, 2121, 2122, 2123, le10, le111, 2012, 2251.

Which of these are ok for your purpose I have no idea. Available on ebay are 127, 2123, le10 and le111, 2123 beeing the most common.

The big difference is the suspension, 2123 beeing stiffer. Is this the spider or the surround?

You could replace the aluminium dust cap with a paper one. This should make the curve more like the 2123 in the high frequencies.

Just for information, likely the only parts shared in a E110 and 2123 cone kit are the tinsel leads and coil former.

The spiders, cones, and coils are different as is obviously the cap.

At the risk of heresy on this website, the JBL 2121 and similar 10 inch drivers are no longer available. Maybe you can find some used ones. If not, Eminence makes several good lines of speakers that closely approximate the best ones we grew up with, JBL, Altec, EV, etc. The Delta series is very affordable, and work great. I have used the Delta 15 and Delta 15LF for P.A. and bass guitar with great results. Eminence drivers are used in all Yamaha P.A. gear. The Eminence Delta-10A 10" Midrange Driver 8 Ohm appears to be a good substitute. I have not tried the 10 inch unit yet. Check http://www.parts-express.com/
