Let me know if I am posting this in the wrong place.

Hey guys,
Like the title says if someone can give me a little help on figuring out if these Altec 21184-2 cones I came across are the real McCoy. They also have another code stamped on them on the other side of the back of the cone - MW24853-01 and below that is a (character I can't read)2 74.

The guys I asked on another stereo site I am part of thought they were bogus like I think they are.

Do these sound like they would be the real deal or did I get hustled?

I received a response from the seller and that says, "those cones are org they have addition house numbers on them that were added by a distributor, that doesnt make them non oem,,,,,however if you are un happy, just mail back and ill send full refund, sorry you were not pleased"

I am not buying it, what does the peanut gallery think?
The 21184-2 stamps don't look like Altec font to me at all.

Huh, just found the MW24853 code on a set of aftermarket recones at The Speaker Exchange. Plot gets thicker.

The first thread on this subject is over here ! (http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=543887) )

Simply send the cones back ( for the refund the seller has already offered you ) if you don't have confidence that your purchase can be worked into your repair ( whatever that is ) .

I have to assume that you're keeping your woofers current coils & spiders ( since you only bought some cones / which is just a single component of a full recone kit ) .

( Btw; many of the cones & coils that GPA currently uses are also not the same as original Altec spec / ( for example ) their ( modern version of the ) 416-8b has some important differences in the TS numbers ( when compared to Altec's official publications )

Compare ;

GPA 416-8B (http://www.greatplainsaudio.com/downloads/416-8B Spec Sheet.pdf) vs Altec 416-8B (http://www.greatplainsaudio.com/vintage_altec/416-8B_LF_Speaker.pdf)

I posted over here also because usually when I have specific Altec questions people usually point me to here for expert advice on things Altec.
I see on the auction website people listing authentic cones every now and then and figured if I could get them at a decent price I would try and get them.
He did offer a full refund and return but what I wanted was a set of authentic cones that I could use if I needed to recone my 515B of 416-8B woofers that I would probably have Bill do.
The other codes on the cones just don't give me confidence that they are authentic NOS Altec cones and I just wanted to see what others thought on the subject. I am not trying to bash anyone but just obtain a little knowledge from others in the know.

Thanks for any help on this.
