While on YouTube I ...AGAIN.... stumbled on to speaker auditions via Kendrick

They obviously are rich "beyond the dreams of Averis" thanks to America:D

I noticed no Eq stuff..at all ....on any sp. audition:blink:.. ...at .. their listening rooms ....

Surely they must be playing this stuff back...for sound ck...........cause

I can ..hear a bunch of recording problems...(room hand shake)
I would think one of the first things they'd ..."pan on'...before the sound..
Would be... the adjusted EQ.BOX...than the audition...
(or play it both ways...I don't care.... ("on ...and defeat")

Small room Auditions suffer from the same old classic problem/
small rm/big eq.... most usefull You tube auditions are outdoors
or in a stereo show auditorium setting...I personally can hear a huge

Interesting to read the comments talking about how such JBL monitors aren't capable of high volume output! I believe that really was the reason for the 4355 and I know how loud a 4345 will get!

So, we're all agreeing on how to spell "Kenrick" and that we're talking about the same thing? :dont-know:

It reminded me of a buddy of mine and his 4355's in his 9 x 12 bedroom. But hey, he wanted the loudspeakers, and where to put them was a distant second consideration.

The physical length of a 20Hz sound wave may be 55-feet but that doesn't mean you can't hear/feel it inside a 12x12-foot room. I sit ten-feet from a JBL 18-inch woofer and a double-bass sounds like a double-bass. Supposedly the lowest note Edgar Meyer's 5-string bass hits is around 31Hz. That's a 36-foot soundwave.

I agree ..... ..but I was just giving ..straight feedback ...on his room was hardly 12x12 anyway''
and I didn't see any evidence of an EQ job anywhere..........
plus I suspect his camera/mic setup might have some issues....to boot

You seem to be really hung-up on EQ!

My system, for instance, has a Soundcraftsmen Pro-EQ 44 in one loop but I only use it to mimic some Fletcher-Munson loudness curves for low-level listening. The system is measured as fairly flat in my room at "normal" levels using just the L-pads on the 4345s and the adjustments for level in the Ashly crossover. But then it's a well-damped 12 x 16' room with equal outlets at both ends opposite the speakers and plenty of soft stuff. I like the sound using the "direct" setting on my Soundcraftsmen Pro-Control-Four pre-amp which by-passes all tone and EQ. Speakers are toed-in about 30-degrees, about 10-feet apart with the seating position about 10-ft from each. I have no problem making bass in that small room!

Sounds like you got a sweet system..:)
And this thread is not about bass ..directly
Abe's magic walk.. to the 55 ft mark and new bass
at the end of his speaker audition ...just demonstrates how easy
it is to pic apart a demo on you tube...

I wanted to jump in on the first post.

I have a question to the OP and an observation to share.

Have you ever recorded your system and then listened to the playback?

When you walk into a room wether you are conscious of it or not you sense and size up the room almost immediately. You could walk blindfolded into most any normal space and know if you were indoors or not, in a small room or large, in an absorptive or reflective space and likely roughly guess the ceiling height in a few seconds and your brain does the processing to allow you to hear the source of interest straight through most of the environmental effects. When you listen to something recorded in another space and the recording includes the sonic signature of the environment you have little ability to process or filter out the effects of the environment. It's similar to attempting to solve something encrypted without the key.

Try it, record your main system and go listen to it on your computer. Even though you are familiar with the space, I think you will be surprised at how unfamiliar it sounds. Be warned, it will likely make you unhappy.

Barry.

Heck, even an L3 would sound good pushing India Arie through a Handi-Cam microphone. :D

BTW, how large are my MacBook Pro "woofers", maybe one-inch?

Maybe Kenji should market an EQ setting for laptops to make them sound just like S4700s. Or, better, your choice of any of the 43xx series 4-ways. ;)
