Hello!

I`we read in some forums about using the car woofer GTO 1514 for a hifi woofer with success. Thoe I have to admit that I am sceptical.

Could it be a musical option as sub from 17,18,19, 20hz -about 50hz?

Ofcorse the best thing would be not to have any sub but is there anu speaker that can play powerful from 20-800hz for reasonable money?

A jbl 2235 can come pretty close to meeting those requirements. If not even exceed them.

Price won't be too bad used.

Car subs have a high group delay do to a very heavy moving mass. Though you could probably make them work.

In my experience, GTO series JBL car subs are not all that great...

Given the discount cost of $200/ea that I found, I'd be looking at this guy:

www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=295-514

Or this...

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-7097

Xmax is over 3/4" vs. a touch over 1/2"... Power handling of 800w RMS vs 350w RMS... Super stiff composite woven cone vs. same old tired "Polypropylene' cheap speaker cone. Both cast baskets, both vented pole piece (both probably manufactured in the 3rd world)....

I'm not a speaker pro like many on here, just a bass head that's been dabbling in car audio for about 20 years now. When I see a 3/4" Xmax and 800w RMS @ $200, my curiosity piques...

...couple that monster with a Crown XLS-1000 and I bet you'd have a very insane sub, @ under $600USD (total w/enclosure), that would rock the socks off of setups triple the price.

I admit, I'm an Crown XLS fanboy (LOVE my 2500) and JBL die hard, but that "cheap" PE sub has me thinking hard... If they had an 18" for $50 more I'd already have a pair.... and I own a set of 2241Hs, in an SR4719A cab with a Crown XLS-2500 (Read... $1550.. reconed subs and heavily discounted otherwise) behind them. I think the little 15" might put on a good show next to my 3x more expensive rig.

NEVER enough bass if you're an addict! :)
