2 wks ago I purchased a pair of the unassuming 1992 JBL L1 monitors that sold for $750/pr in 1992. They utilize the 706-G1 6.5" mid/bass and 035T1A 1" titanium tweeter with what looks like a nicely built crossover. The cabinets have a sloped front which I presume is to time-align the tweeter w/ the woofer plus minimize standing waves inside the box. I expected harsh highs but they don't exhibit this. The bass is plentiful and a bit more than I'm used to. I didn't expect much from them but they sound better to me than the 602s I owned in the past and more enjoyable than the 4312s I've owned too. These speakers have a big 'fun factor' from their sound so that I'm building a system in a spare room around them.

Here is a poor photo showing the speakers. Disregard the receiver in the photo as it will not be the amp driving these speakers.

I've never heard a 6.5" 2-way JBL that I didn't like.

Thanks for the link. When I did a search nothing showed up so I thought I add my 2¢ with my observations.

Yep, search engine in Vbulletin (forum software) seems to be pretty useless ... especially on search terms with 3 letters or less.

You can use Google to search this site only by going to google and put your search term in the search box like this

JBL L1 site:www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin

It'll bring up a BUNCH of threads on this site about L1 speakers!

Hey L1's! I have those my garage, along with the L7!!

Love the L1, amazing performance/$, understand your surprise at their output for such an unassuming box.

If I didn't have the L5 in my bedroom mini HT, the L1 would sitting there.

I might just drag them out tomorrow for a spin!!

Maybe I'll get out my 18Ti's and give them another chance ??

(wasn't impressed on the 1st audition) :(

I took a look at the closet where they were buried. Took quite a while to get them out. :(

Put them up where the L15's were. Better. Fairly similar sound, just a gen newer. Will leave them connected to the headboard Creek amp.

It's only 30 wpc, so not going to try to get big SPL out of them. Could replace the amp, but it's been such a reliable, good performer that I'll stick with it.
