View Full Version : Why Did JBL Change From .068uF to .01uf Bypass Caps?

I was recently replacing some caps in a small bookshelf speaker and had a very pleasant surprise. I used a .068uF polystyrene cap to bypass a 2.7uF polypropylene Jantzen Cross-Cap on a rather simple 2" paper cone tweeter and it really brought the thing alive. This little $2.90 upgrade made the sound coming out of that little tweeter sound almost 3D as compared to before.

I was wondering if anybody had any insight into why JBL changed from .068uF to .01uF caps and if the .068uF caps were polypropylene or polystyrene.

Any pointers to previous threads on this subject would also be appreciated.
