I am considering sitting my 4344's (when finished) on top of some B380 Sub cabinets that have been fitted out with Sub1500 drivers. That would take the 2405 driver to a height of 1450mm (4' 9") off the floor. Is that getting to high?

Would a sonically better solution be to sit them side by side and elevate the 4344 a few inches (as has been recommended to me to counteract bass boominess) that would see the 2405 at about 1000mm (3' 4").

BTW sitting comfy on the sofa my ears are at 1150mm (3' 9") from the floor.

Or is this all a bit of a non-event when it comes to the final sound differences due to height above floor.

thanks,
Jarrod

I wouldn't stack them. Too high....

The 2405 slot must be ear height or it won't work.

I agree with Ian. You should have the 2405s as near ear level as possible. Since you will be using a sub, getting the 2235s up off the floor will help them as well.

You could always lie them on their sides like a texas book shelf and re orientate the lense and slot if you wanted the subs under the 4344.

You need the slots at ear height. You have a very narrow cone in the vertical axis above 10K which is where you primarilly have it working. You may be able to work them above your ears if the distance is far enough or you can angle them down so they lean forward a bit. I do that with my center speaker. I built stands under mine to get them at the right height.

The distance from my speakers to couch is 5 meters and that puts the angle at about 3.5 degrees off centre. That may make it tollerable but yes when I look at the rolloff in the vertical dispersion graph of the 2405H it is a bit scarey.

I have decided to get the cabinets for the Sub1500's made from scratch instead of try to find another B380 to refit. Maybe I will have some latitute to make them not as high or something. Back to the drawing board on my niced stacked idea.....

I agree that you need the 2405s to be at ear level. If you sit in a chair that lets you lean back while listening, you may need to go even higher as your head reclines to the rear.
Some recording studios soffit mounted even full sized 4343s, definatly getting the tweeters up to the ears!
