Hi!

Is there any improvement at the motor design between the older 2245H and the newer 2242HPL?
Do they all have aluminium voice coil formers? JBL 2226HPL, too?

Hi!

Is there any improvement at the motor design between the older 2245H and the newer 2242HPL?The 2242H has a more modern motor structure and exhibits greater power handling and reduced distortion. I believe that I posted the EDS for both transducers at some point.

The 2242H is a real monster that fit in well as the IMAX style replacement transducer for the 2245H. The 2245H was never really up to that kind of commercial abuse. I think the 2245H is the "better" of the two for home use despite the foam surround longevity issue. It digs deeper with less effort compared to the 2242H.

The LE14H and 2245H share that magical "perfect pitch" their designer praises. He has also stated, with a hint of reverence, that the 2242H "isn't of this planet".

Pick your poison.

Hi,

so at "audiophile feeling" the 2245H is better.
I need the facts, for example BL and Cms symmetry.
If the older driver produces more K2 and K3, thatīs sounding or limitation I donīt want.
The 2242H can reach -3dB at 20Hz in a 300+ liters vented cabinet. Just a slight equalization is necessary.
(I measured many JBL drivers with the Klippel analyzer. LE-120H and 123A have been outstanding(suspension and motor).
2234H and 2214H average (progressive suspension) and 150-4H very bad (extremely progessive unlinear suspension, but constant BL by underhung design).
In most cases I really have been flashed by the performance of the old JBL drivers. For example the 104H-2 curve and distortion.
I also like the 2452H-SL Iīll use for my 4430 clones with P-Audio 1,5" biradial horn.)

By the way, what kind of monitor speakers Led Zeppelin have used for their recordings?!?
Iīm looking the movie "it might get loud" right now...
