I run a CL ad to buy used JBL's

yesterday I get this email

"My husband passed away last month. He has a bunch of older Hifi stuff, they've been in our garage for years. One JBL long wood cabinet, says Paragon on back. Bunch of older electric pieces say Mcintosh. I'd like to get rid of this stuff, what are they worth? Thanks, Amy "

I've got nothing to lose since every spammer in the universe has my email address , so I answer

"not sure ... would like to take a look"

the reply to that=

"Thanks for the reply. A friend dropped by and I told him I contacted you regarding the Hifi stuff. He offered $500 for the batch and that was fine with me. Amy"

quite the "friend" for poor Amy, eh?

Sounds bogus without more info... I don't recall a "Paragon" label, but part numbers
(e.g., D44000, LX5, N7000, etc...) why worry about it?

Now now, you know some folks take great delight in tweaking folks who post WTB JBL ads in their local CL ... I'd feel confident believing that if you didn't actually SEE the $500 Paragon thingee that "Amy" wrote about, it didn't really exist.

'sides, you already have those nice teak Dalek 250 pyramids to enjoy ...

Asking pictures (included of a specific detail) of those so-called deals very often cuts the communications short. :applaud:

You just never know.
There is that hubbub about a hundred-dollar pair of S8Rs over on AK that turned out to be legit. :dont-know:


I've yet to figure out what half the scams on CL net their perpetrators! :confused:
