I was wrong in my conclusion. I did see a pair of RCA 7254's on ebay that were similar but the coils were different

Hi booch, sorry I am a little late in replying. Seems you got a decent price on ebay though, so it's all good.

To the best of my knowledge this driver dates from the 1926 to 1930 period. RCA was only a distribution company until they bought Victor Talking Machine Co. in 1929, so this driver was probably built by General Electric. The field pot was used in several drivers such as the world's first (I think) 15" woofers used in a 1927 RCA Photophone vertical array (!) system. Pictures below. The "big ears" basket was used in the consumer RCA Radiola 106 speaker cabinet as well as in various theatre speakers like this one. It wasn't long until this driver evolved into the MI-1425 type, which was produced in large numbers all through the 1930s.
