Hello,
I respectively a friend of mine want to rebuild a DX-1 for my K2 S9500.

We have found this schematic of the DX-1 (see attachment).

Also we find the values for the S9500 cards:
57131

and an image of the cards:

Now we have two problems.
We can not find the resistors / capacitors R107, R108 and C114 and 115 in the JBL DX-1 schematic. The simulated frequency response curve is inconsistent with the values of the resistors / capacitors.

Can anyone help, please.

Best regards
Dieter

*What* did You simulate?

We can not find the resistors / capacitors R107, R108 and C114 and 115 in the JBL DX-1 schematic. The simulated frequency response curve is inconsistent with the values of the resistors / capacitors. The DX-1 was originally designed for the XPL-200 hence the schematic probably shows the XPL-200 card.

Greg later expanded the utility of the DX-1 to several other systems, including the Everest II, by building different card sets.

Hello Ruediger,

he simulated "voltage vs. frequenzy".

That is the aim:
57133

For LF it is ok, but for HF the curve is very false.(I don't have this curve, he is in holidays a few days.)

Best Regards
Dieter

Hello 4313b,

is there any solution for my problem ?

Pasadena and I both posted all the card schematics over the years and I think there are numerous threads to that effect. If you can't find them I'll have to pull them off another computer that is no longer in service and it will take me a few days to pull that hard drive. You might try searching for M9500, I believe it used the same DX-1 card style as the S9500. Use Google for your searches of this site.

After a google search for DX-1, I found this thread - http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?599-JBL-DX-1-Crossover-kits

Robh3606 posted the full DX-1 schematic there - at this link http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=479&d=1061218205

Pasadena's thread is here - http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?1085-JBL-DX-1-Input-Output-Cards

with the brochure, even ...

Thank you very much hjames,

i have this schematic, but in there are not the resistors / capacitors R107, R108 and C114 and 115, we are looking for.

Best regards Dieter

Thank you!

My friend will try it, when he is back from holidays!:)

If something wrong, i will ask.

If i am not mistaken the extra parts are becasue the version shown is Charge Coupled taking the + voltage off the power supply.

Hello Rob:),

i don't understand this.

Could you explain please.

What do we have to do or what do we have to care or intend?

Best regards

Dieter

The HF card is biased. If you look at the caps and resistor values and the Pin Numbers 3 and 9 they are +/- 18 volts. That's why they are not on the original schematic. On a standard non biased card you would have a single cap for each pair and the 4.7 Megs R107, R108 wouldn't be there. Just think of a Charge Coupled network.

Hello,
I have again 2 questions:
Is there a technical manual or a crossover schematic for the K2 S9500 ?

In the DX-1 there is no equalization for the HF.
Is it right, that this equalization for the HF happens in association within the passive crossover of the S9500?

Best regards

Dieter

Hello,
the prototype of the "DX-1" is ready and it works and sounds real good!

A little change at the layout, burr-brown OPAs, a nice enclosure, and I am happy!:hurray::hurray:

Thank You for Your compliments! I will give them to the (re)builder of the DX-1, too.
For me the K2 was a dream about 10 or 15 years. I think, it is the best looking JBL, perheps the best of the world!:D

Best regards Dieter

Currently on a French forum, pos and my-self are exchanging around S9500 filtering by using an active crossover (http://www.homecinema-fr.com/forum/post178498365.html#p178498365)

pos provided parameters for replicating the response curves shown here by using a digital crossover, but on my side I simulated the circuit (it was to enable JBL 5235 owners to implement it using 523x crossover cards), and we identified the issue mentionned here by Dieter ("for HF the curve is very false"). My HF curve is resulting from a simulation using LT-Spice and it is different from the measured HF curve presented here.

We are trying to identify which one is the right one, there is about 100Hz of cutting point differences, which is not negligeable.

If someone has an idea about it would be welcomed.
