Aloha!!!

Looking for advice on re-coning, Alnico Magnet re-charging and re-aligning gap's in the coil's for drivers like 375, LE15a, 075 and a few others from that era. Has anyone tried Orange County speaker repair? I am looking the the BEST guys in the business. Cost is not the main factor, quality is...

I would suggest you reach out to the various Forum members who are reconers. Ask them for photos of their work and judge them by their work and how willing they are to work with you. I have only heard good things about our member reconers, I have heard good and bad about Orange County.

Perhaps others will chime in with their recommendations.

The closest professional to Hawaii I know is member Edgewound.

How are those Century Golds working for you? If I remember correctly you purchased them from Jerry Moro?

Thanks for the response... The Century Gold's are doin' just GREAT! And yes, they did come from Jerry. Do you or any else know Edgewounds first name?

It's Ken, but he'll answer to 'edge.'

We have authorized re-coners here (Honolulu, Hawaii)but they do not have the ability to re-charge the Alnico magnets. Also the gap's in the coil need to be checked and possibly re-aligned. Anyone here had any experience with this?

Sincerely...

The models you mentioned are unlikely to need recharging unless they look like they've been dropped, or they have taken a lot of kicking around. According to the advice we've been given the loss of magnetism that results from being overdriven happens in Alnico woofers with overhung voice coils, especially the three inch ones. But if you feel like you want to know for sure, you'll have to have it done. Edge doesn't do it himself, but he can test the field and get it done near his shop if necessary. Otherwise you'll have to send them to a reconer who provides that service.

Edgewound (Upland Loudspeaker Service) can do all the work for you, and can get the magnets recharged if needed. He does excellent work.

I live near OCS and have always had good luck with them. When I questioned a magnet recharge due to a low BL factor, they "reshot" the speakers at no charge over a year later.

I always get it in writing as to where foams are to be positioned and talk to the people at the counter about it at the time so there are no suprises. I've never had a speaker "rub" that they've reconed or refoamed.

If I recall correctly, their JBL stock was low and they may not even have those parts anymore. You'll have to check with them about what you need and if they still have parts that would satisfy you.

OCS has recently revamped their website with some JBL parts/pieces marked as NLA. As above best to call ahead to see if they have the parts or can get them, JBL OEM of course.
