Am I understanding correctly that 2311 is the professional version of H93. I would like to upgrade my olympus from s7r to s8r. I am wondering if I can use 2311 and 2440 driver for Olympus. I really appreciate if somebody can help me out here. thanks!

Yes you can, be mindful that the short horn is not very smooth.

The wooden horn (2397) will blow it away. How do I know?, Because I owned a pair of short horns.

The 2 inch driver is a great upgrade over the 1". You will not regret it.

The 2445 is easy to come by, but without proper combinsation in the crossover it will have an nasal tone quality.

I'll second that ! My dad's S8R's sounded good in the midrange when the 375 driver was disconnected ! Seriosly though, that stubby horn does little to tame those "Steep explosive wavefroms" that come out of the 375. Try an HL88 . Could be a lot better. Gonna cost you a ton more though. I have heard very good things about the wide mouth wooden horns. I actually heard the S8R'S with the 375 driving this gorgeous teac finished horn. Very wide dispersion but OH SO SMOOTH ! None of that 375 ear excavation that normally happens. You know, where the wax and blood flow freely.

Just thumpers ramblings

actually the weak midrange is the spot I want to resolve. currently I have s7r with double el34 amplifier and rotel rcd2 cd player. somehow I am very satisfied with s7r midrange performance. I have been hoping with s8r upgrade, it could give me some rich touches with midrange. However I am physically limited with the Olympus enclosure. Can we install hl88 with 375 in Olympus? Can we install any other horn with 375/2440 in Olympus? I think I am a little confused. Thanks for the information. george

the 2344 horn IMHO is a better fit for a 1" driver. The Issue's to resolve:

1. Crossover freq 1.2K (maybe to high)
2. passive eq( to reduce a bump in the horn response)
3. dispersion (between the 2202 and horn)

The tough one would be the dispersion.
