Hi.
Recently I tried to substitute Tannoy 15" Monitor Gold with JBL 2235H below 800Hz but with no success :(
Running Tannoy only for bass is a waist, so my plain was to put another 15" driver less expensive than Tannoys.
Sound with JBL was with less resolution and kind of muddy, but goes deeper.
Cabinets are 4ft, tunned to 30Hz.
My plan was to run JBL 2235H ( to replace Tannoy ) to around 800Hz then JBL 2451 ( with Truextent on Jabo KH53 horn ) to around 10KHz then Fostex T900a as super tweeter.
Anybody have any suggestion?

I have some experience in comparison of JBL 2231A + 2420+2312+2308 in 156L box (with 3133 compatible network), tuned to 28Hz
and Tannoy HDP385A kit (in 180Lit box). On my opinion, JBL 'sounds is better', but the taste is individual.
For 2235H I would expect that the sound is more-or-less (less) similar to the 2213A.
May be mentioned 4ft box (113Lit) box is too small (compared to 5.5ft3 box I have been used) for 2235H, but I would expect that LF cut-off
would be influenced by that ( by calculation F3 =41.75Hz to 38Hz) not higher frequency region.

May be the sensitivity has to be adjusted (as I have remembered Tannoy was less sensitive but not too much).

My suggestions are;
1. measure T/S parameters for used JBL 2235H ( to be sure that T/S parameters are in specified values)
2. make a crossover to about 800Hz ( as in 3133 network)
3. adjust sensitivity for used drivers
4. adjust crossover region with used HF driver (+ horn )

At "the end" some mid-bass would be 'well come' ( like 4343 or 4344....)
