As part of a recent trade, I received a 12 woofer with the model number worn away. It has a fresh 2203 cone with a stamped #53380. Would I be correrct to assume that this is probably a Model 124A?

Is this actually a genuine recone from JBL?
The glue under the foam surrounds looks ok but that one single number is suspicious to me.
I had a pair of 2225/2235 baskets with cheap 2235H recones and these had a similar number but nothing more written on them.
They were completely rubbish - the surrounds were way too stiff, wrong voice coil and missing mass ring.
So if your woofer also has an aftermarket recone I'm not surprised that your tech called it a door stop ;)
