Any cures for ringing ears?

I had two teeth pulled recently and the doctor used laughing gas and propathal. When I woke up, I had ringing in my ears - sort of like being at a loud rock concert.

I have been to a specialist MD and taken a prescribed steriod that was no help. The specialists said I should try eating some anti-oyxident foods or pills (over-the-counter).

Are there any other home remidies?

I've seen some commercials for tinnitus treatment, don't have any idea of what's involved though...

As far as I know, your ringing problem might be called tinnitus and very often it is dying cells in your ear(s). It is usually irreversible. You will have to live with it. I fear the day I will have that.

There is a cure they are working on in Germany that involves playing music in headphones with a sine wave that matches the frequency of your ringing.

Hello Robert,

Sorry to hear about your sudden affliction. Although I am no expert, I have had low-moderate ringing in both ears for about 15 years nos and yours seems to have been triggered by the dentist. I tried to "cancel" out the ringing with the same frequency from a tone generator with varied results.

Since this is stilll in the Lansing Product G I page I will tell you that my cure for the "die grinder" that runs in my head day and night is music played through my JBL speakers above the level of whine pretty much all the time. :)

This works but takes some effort. In essence you teach your brain not to hear the noise. There are centers here in the 'States. Some people can do it at home (about 10% of patients) - takes discipline. But, since yours was caused by a physical event, not noise, it may gradually subside. These guys could most likely tell you what to expect. Mike

What was the prescribed steroid?
I've had ringing in my ears since I had a little issue with a brain tumor about 12-13 years ago.

I can tell you that the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary on 14th street has an entire department that deals with tintitus.

Huge doses of niacin/niacinamide. This dialates the capillaries and is used for ringing when someone is exposed to loud noise such as gunfire. These doses will make you flush so much that it feels like sunburn.
