Hi to everyone on board,
I am on a project right now to create a mid sized speaker based on a TAD 2001 Driver and horns.
I want to create a 2 way system based "probably" on a pair of tl 1102 per side.
Could anyone tell me or advise me an EQUIVALENT ?
Gauss 3184 ?
Anything else worth trying ?
I WANT a paper cone. And alnico.
No other substitute please. Matter of taste
Thanks for your help....

The AL-1103 is supposed to be a very good replacement:

It is made by Davis for Akoustik, and designed by a french contractor to replace the TAD TL1102

yes i am aware of it.
just spoke to the TAD rep in France.
Anything else out there ?
Any experience with other drivers ?
;);)
No direct experience, but the JBL 1200Fe is highly regarded (and distortion plots (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?21713-1200fe-8) are very impressive), but it is a ferrite driver.
If you want to stay with alnico magnets you will likely only find vintage drivers, like the Altec/great plains audio...
But while we are a t it, if you like alnico magnet maybe you would like field coil drivers even better:

Supravox also comes to mind
Another option would be to commission Davis to build a special version of the 31TCA12 with an alnico magnet (similar to the unobtainable JMF version (http://www.jmf-audio.com/woofer_en.htm)), but the price will likely be similar to the AL1103 (and probably even higher for only 4 drivers on special order...).
EDIT: oups, forgot you only wanted paper cones!
