Advice on JBL M552 crossover

Hi,

Is it correct to turn the green light off when you set this frequency crossover at 300HZ on this JBL M552?
(See the attached pic)
That's what I've been doing so far in driving my 4343 in a bi-amp mode.
I just want to double check with you on this.

And another question is, when 4343's in bi-amp mode, some say it's better to set the crossover at 290HZ, rather than 300HZ.
What do you think?

The spec is to crossover at 290Hz - but if you are worried about the diff between 290 and 300Hz,
you might want to use a scope and sig gen to be sure of the setting accuracy of your front panel controls ...

So, I was right when I set the green light OFF, right?

If you see the pic, I currently set the crossover at the center bar, namely between 180 and 400.
I presume it is 300HZ. Am I right?:blink:

Been a long time since I used a 552 - I switched over to an Ashly crossover a few years back and that worked good for my 4341s.

I kind of -eyeballed the freq and hoped I was right with the Ashly, too.

You don't need to engage the divide by 10 switch. If you have an RTA you can use that to determine where you are. The bottom line is that you want to sum flat through the crossover point so 50Hz on either side on the dial doesn't really matter as long as you are flat through the transition. If you don't have an RTA just go with what sounds best to you. After some practice you can adjust by ear and get it real close.

By the way, have you ever used DBX 223XL active crossover?
I'm planning to use it for 4343 for a comparison with JBL M552.
