I do not know the name of the black portion of the internal 2440

It does not have one. One is broken.

I'd like to know the name and place of purchase of parts.

Thanks~

That's a phase plug. The 2440 without it is as good as a heavy paper weight.

thang, the part missing is the phase plug if i recall. I have no idea where you might get a replacement, other than obtaining another pair of 2440's. will the phase plug interchange with any other 2" driver? I do not know. perhaps somebody else will chime in? if so, that will widen the range of replacement parts.

Hello and welcome! The part you are refering to is called a phase plug. I cant say I`ve ever seen one of them for sale.
Most 2440s are available as complete drivers and occasionaly missing only the diaphragms.
You may want to check out Ebay for parts or maybe even find a single orphan.
Hope this helps.

I remember a guy on here had his drivers demaged, then he rebuilt them and had then remaged. If you can find that thread it shows how these drivers are put together.

Refurbishing a pair of 2440 (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?29464-Refurbishing-a-pair-of-2440&highlight=).

Since you have one, you can make a copy of it. It will take a lot of time and/or cost a lot. You will need a lathe. In order to take the drivers apart you will need to find a shop that can demagnitize and remagnitize the drivers.
