New Crossover for S8R Olympus


Hey all, I’m after some advice on upgrading the crossovers on my JBL S8R Olympus speakers. The current crossovers are LX5 and N7000, but it don’t want to recap and they are sealed and I’d rather keep them as they are. I’ve read the below thread and one of the respondents propose a new single crossover to replace the two (see attachment)55471

I have a couple of questions. Firstly does this make sense, and secondly I’m unable to find 13.5 uF caps, would 13uF do?

It makes sense to build new crossovers for the S8R.

There is no sense in just copying the schematics from LX5 and N7000 into one. To construct new from scratch is the logical solution.

And 13uF is close enough to 13.5uF.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm a bit confused are you suggesting that the proposed crossover in my first post is just a copy or a logical alternative.

Try it. You can't go that terribly wrong with it.

Here is a suggestion, have you thought about biamp/triamping using an active/electronic crossover? You can effectively double wattage rating of the total amps. You bass will become much clearer because your woofer will see the direct damping of the output transistors amplifier without the interference of inductors and capacitors etc.
