2390 horn/lens and 1" throat adaptor, is it valuable?

I have a pair of theese horn/lens with the 1" throat adaptor, and I have a pair of McCaully horns who look like the JBL 2391 horn/lens. Does the sound of the JBL 2390 be superior to the McCaully, because I use for a long time the McCaullys and it is too far in my memory how they sounded(2390). What if I put back the 2390 on my JBL 2420, would it sound better? The woofers are K-145.

It's very likely no one here knows the McCaully horns, especially since you do not tell us which one you have.

In general some members here, including myself, have found that large format drivers that are crossed in at frequencies up to 1200 Hz sound better than the small format drivers. JBL has documented this, especially at high levels.

Those who have experimented with small format drivers fitted to large format horns with an adapter have not reported that this is an optimum arrangement.

That's a decent horn and lens combination. If you want to optimize your sound, you might look around for some large format JBL compression drivers and fit them with new diaphragms, ideally, aluminum JBL's or truextent Be's.

Without seeing them from the front I can't be certain but I think I have a pair of those, internally they are the same as near as I can tell by looking at them as the JBL 2307/H91's. I also have a pair of 2" McCaully horns like the JBL 2311's with similar slant lenses as pictured. I have never directly sonically compared them but I would wager they sound pretty much the same. The aluminum lenses are certainly more durable than the JBL 2308's.

Thanks I've found that they are the 417 model, the 1 inch version. I know that they cross at 1200Hz, if they are like their JBL counter part(2391), they would have some better highs than the JBL2390, but I guess that the 2390 can be crossed at 800Hz, maybe a better match for my k-145, but it would probabily need a super tweeter...:skeptical:
