Who can tell the difference between the JBL 2415H and 2416H?

For me they are identical

Found out myself: The 2415 have a higher DCR (4.5 vs 3.2).

2417 is the better substitude for the 2416. The 2417 dia is the same than the 2416 but 50 bucks cheaper.

hi Guido!

i have a similar quesstion: whats the diffrence between 2425 and 2426?

i dont get it! JBL has a jungle with compression drivers, but theyr all pretty much the same, exept for 1" 2" and so on....

im talking cores here....i understand that diffrent dias goes in diffrent cores.

what i mean is u can buy a 1" dia and throw into pretty much any 1" core and be happy. as long as it dont have the same boltpattern as the slotmags on ur chevy-van.

2415's have a phase plug with round holes as opposed to the concentric slits you normally see in JBL phase plugs. At least the one I have does. Don't know if it's across the board or not.

2425's have a solid non removable horn mount for the standard 3 point 1" horns JBL uses. The 2426 has a screw on removable mount that when removed will allow a screw on horn like the 2342 to be used. The 2426 has a more flexible mounting set-up.

It would seem that the holes approach would be easier to make than the concentric slits, but does anybody know the diff?, I have both and the 2415 needs a new diaph, I have some 2416 diaphs, but have been too lazy to compare the 2415 vs 2416.

The 2415 dia has a higher DCR and the 2415 driver has an other phase plug. OK can be considered different.

The 2417 dia has the same DCR than the 2416 dia. Maybe higher/lower mass? I don't believe that.
The same? I don't believe that either although you never know with JBL.

The 2426 dia is a 2416 dia without the plastic cap. That we learned.

It is easy when you just use the right part in the right driver.
But the huge price differences make swapping parts very tempting. It would not be the first time that JBL sells one and the same part with just other nomenclature.

The 2417 has a lower mass diaphram than the 2416 for more extended HF response,

Hi Rob

Does the 2416/17 diaphragm/backcap assembly fit the 2415 magnet ?
I have a pair of 2415 drivers that have just horrible response anamolies ( huge holes ) . I've always wondered if it was that "pin-cushion" phasing plug .

I think they do. I used an after market 2416 diaphram/cap and it worked fine on both the 2416/2415 where it is now. I would guess if the aftermarket works the real deal should?? The 2416/17 I am not sure of. No hands on with the 2417.

Any odd response stuff from your 2415(s) ?

Never measured it. I have one I put in my son's 4655 cabinet he uses for his quitar. Never tried it in a Hi Fi application. Just an Ebayed core so I could switch out a 2416.

Hi Rob

Well, I never buy any of these "scaled-back" compresson drivers. I prefer the full sized back-cap.

FWIW, I believe that's just a 2415 magnet core.

"Box-Swap" is a more likely explanation . :D

I too saw this and remembered:

holes = 2415

Thanks Rob!

I have both, untested sonically, can somebody tell us the difference?

As far as I know the phase plug. The 2415 has the holes in the previous photo and the 2416 has slots like a 2425/2426. There may be others besides.

Thanks, what I meant was the sonic differences.

One should use such a radian back cap plus a D8R2425 Dia to replace the 2416 dia. This will save up to 50 bucks!

Also nice to see are the slits in the phase plug.

BTW: How do they make thos pics? Free floating objects? WHICHCRAFT

I have found 2416's with BOTH types of phase plugs....:o)

I have one each of these "cores" should anyone be interested.

The 2416H is the same as used in the JBL control 12 SR I was looking around and did an extra search that brought me here. Oh was this, posted in 2004. I like this site.:D

2425/2416/2415 dia fits 2417, but not vice-versa.

2417 dia is shallower, and hits phase plug of 2425/16/15 before the coil is in the gap. If You try to force it, damage is inevitable.
