Hello

A german friend of mine told me I could improve my 4343 clone in changing caps with Mundorf caps ( from germany ) supreme and mcap .
My xover has 2-56uf +2-22uf+1-6uf caps 400vdc-250vac and I do not understand a lot in electronics .

I have seen on this formum that changing for too bright caps may not be good for the driver ( 2420 ) sound .

What do you think guys about mundorf ? .

One of our resident network gurus has them mentioned, here:

See page 4, 13 March.

Hi Gerard!

I modified my 4343 with Audyn Caps from Intertechnik. Only the UHF was equipped with Audyn Plus Caps from Intertechnik.
Both caps are high class products!

Then I included bypass caps 0,01 MKP and 0,01 MKT.

Sound is perfect and not too bright.

Mundorf is nice but far too expensive IMO!

How do you make a 4343 clone with this caps?

What speakers do you use?

Guido

I use

LE 15A
2115 ( LE8T)
2420
2405

This is the first time I look at the caps ...

could work with your components although you'll need a 2121 midrange. I went through all this and finally only the 2121 really fits the 4343.

Please compare your network with the original network. It seems that you have amuch simpler network.

The 4343 network

hi guido and thank you for your info .

I have seen a nice network on :

http://audioheritage.csdco.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=975&perpage=15&highlight=audio%20cable&pagenumber=2

If I want to upgrade my network would you suggest to upgrade mine with bypasscaps ?, make a new one like jbl ? or make the one made on thread 975 page 2.?

In fact the jbl where installed with 2115 - le8t may be to get a better smooth response ?
May be I should first upgrade my network and think over to put 2121 but the 2115 seems to be ok ....
what should i get more with 2121 ?

regards

Gerard

I personally would never use the network from 4343mod. But this is just personal preference!
I like it original.

If you are fine with the 2118 stay with them. It was just because I tried 2123H and 2012H instead of the 2121 and it just wasn't right. Now with the 2121 its a dream.

As for the bypass caps it is a real improvement. Use 0,01 uF MKT and MKP types with 5% tolerance and at least 200V.

Where do you live in Casablanca? Villa at the Beach? ;)
Then I might come over and help you

Yes Guido,
You are allright. I would take MKP`s for min.
Gerard, try it with cheap (MKT) ones and when you are on the way, take the best ones for the mid and high range.
Youst try and listen, or better listen and measure
reponse what additional components do on frequency range.
You can remove them when it not works, but you upgrade
an original network when it works.

hi Guido

ok I will try to make a drawing of the xover I got and may come back to ask some advise ...

Yes I leave 100 meter from the sea , in Caqsablanca , you just walk a bit and you got a nice beach allowing you to walk for hours ... You are welcome if you pass by ....

Eckhard

I may buy some mundorf components once the drawing will be made ....if the value of caps are small ...

Best regards

Gerard

If it is any reference : Mcaps are used in (some types of) the B&W top loudspeaker series : they are e.g. used in the new 803D.
I have put a question to Mundorf on upgrading some of my equipment with their
products.

hi,

if you want the ultimate musical quality, my experience is that paper-oil capacitors are the way to go. But mundorf is definately a respected brand as far as normal caps are concerned

paper-oil capacitors are hard [and expensive] to buy new, some people say that the new ones are still never as good as the old ones

I use Cornell Dubelier and Sangamo, both from the 1970's...

makes music come out of my 2420, they need a lot of time to break in though [they are new-old-stock] and sound good

greetings, frank
