Between the ST in the 1400 Array:

A 045Ti 25mm (1") pure-titanium ultrahigh-frequency compression driver.

and the ST in the 4365 Monitor:

045Ti-1 Ultrahigh-Frequency Compression Driver

A lightweight 1-inch (25mm) magnesium diaphragm produces realistic dynamics far beyond therange of human hearing, with ultrasmooth response that is ideal for SACD

™ (Super Audio CD) and
other high-resolution audio formats.

It appears the 4365 has a magnesium tweeter-the array a titanium. From what I have read, the Magnesium gets the nod, correct? Is there a huge difference in sound?

Just curious. Thanks!

The 1400 Array, SAM1HF and 4338 used the aluminum and titanium diaphragmed versions of the 435Al (3-inch) and 045Ti (lower price points) while the K2-S9800 used the beryllium diaphragmed versions of the 435Be (3-inch) and 045Be (higher price point).

Then came the DD66000 which used a new compression driver (476Be) having a 4-inch beryllium diaphragm (highest price point).

JBL needed a less expensive material to make the price points for the new K2-S9900 and 4365 so they came up with the magnesium 476Mg. The 476Mg is very close in performance to the top of the line 476Be.

There is a marked difference in performance between beryllium or magnesium versus titanium or aluminum.

Okay. Thanks. I assume your response implied that there is a performance difference between the two ST that I asked about-the 045ti & 045ti-1.

Can you advise what sonic differences one might expect? I understand the logic of price points and profits. However, I do not understand speaker building. I suspect that JBL would not put in an inferior part in a speaker just because it costs more to produce. I also suspect that JBL would put a superior part in a speaker to make it better-hence the increase in cost.

I am a curious person, so I would like to know such things. Not the process of construction, the sound difference due to new materials, new technology and so forth.

Thank you for your answer. It makes sense. Could the 045ti-1 make a large improvement if implemented in the 1400 Array?

Thanks Again!

Thanks. I assume your response implied that there is a performance difference between the two ST that I asked about-the 045ti & 045ti-1.The differences between the 045Ti and 045Ti-1 as well as the 045Be and 045Be-1 are production differences. Performance between the original and the -1 is the same.
