Hello guys !
It has been one year since I haven't posted to this forum.
I want to start a DIY project but I'am not sure what to do. My wish is to build 4355 cabinets and buy all the original components with cc networks but ..I also heard that 4345 are great 4 way speakers.
I read a lot of postings here on this forum and saw that more prefered are the 4345.
I do not like to listen very loud (Very rare over 50W) but I 'am looking for a good clear dynamic , Bi-amplified JBL 4 way sound:). My room is probably 20 square feet.
I have my 4333A for 2 years and i am very happy with them , just looking to go 4 ways :) and because my bugget does not allow me to purchase all the drivers at once and I will buy them probably from ebay and from this forum in time.
I would need your opinion on this one.
Thanks

your 2 4333A's should use up ALL that 20 square feet with NO room to even sit.

20 square feet=4x5 foot.

OR

is your room 20 feet square ?? 20x20=400 square feet.

my room is 4X5 foot,
I'am looking for better and improved sound. That's why I thought about a 4 way speaker system.
I love my 4333A but I would really like to listen a 4345 or a 4355 to see if it worths the money and the effort involved in this project

4x5... meters or yards?

If not, I hope the door opens outward.

"Lower" listening levels? 4345 would be my preference over 4355.

Hi grumpy, thanks for your opinion ,
I have heard only good things about 4345. For now I use 4x5 meeters
About 4355, besides I love their design much more then a 4345 ,I read on the forum that most users hate the 2202H freq.
My room it's not much but in the future when I will finish building my new house I prepared a 7x9 meeters. Actualy the plan was to fit my clones in this large room.

I've only heard the dual 15" monitor in a radio station, not in a home, so don't weigh my opinion too heavily. I would expect either choice to be very impressive, if in different ways.

About 4355, besides I love their design much more then a 4345.That alone is reason enough to go that route. I agree that the horizontal pair of 15"ers is very macho looking....

Having heard both a number of times in different rooms, I'd suggest the 4355s have more punch and will play stupid loud extremely well. The 4345s have a bit more nuance and detail.

Both systems are big and bold and will certainly impress... I do prefer the newer designs as tonal accuracy and imaging are important to me, but for the cost of a pair of 43XX clones or even fine vintage originals, it is hard to go wrong.

I have only heard the 4355 in a studio here about 28 years ago. Since then I have always wanted a pair.

Concerning Your experiences about 4345 & 4355, especially in medium to small rooms, what is our experience with 4355 horizontal dispersion, as from some JBL data sheet, there is "large hole" in frequency response about 1 ~ 1.5 kHz about 20~40 degrees off-axis, what is 'influenced by" horizontal drivers position 2202 and 2440/41.

As both mentioned (4345 and 4355) are very efficient speakers, listening them on 50W would be very unpleasant, because if 50W corresponds to +17dB from 1W, and if for 4345 98db/1W is assumed, then 115dB can be reach..., for 4355 that would be 1~2 dB more.
I think that even 5W would be quite enough.

I then put those "bookshelfs" over the dual fifteens. The end result was quite impressive. CC networks of course.

I also did the same thing with the ten-inch three-way from the 4345, placing that three-way over the dual fifteens.

The upgrade path from these systems is a DD66000.

I've done some reasearch on the forums and read a lot of opinions and I think that for me 4345 will do.
4355 looks like are very strong and can stand up to a lot of power, but this is not what I am looking for. I want a clear dynamic JBL genuine sound:).

4313B I saw in your postings that you have few parts for 4345 for sale. Do you still have them ? Or any of you guys please let me know.
Thanks a lot you have been very helpfull.

4355 looks like are very strong and can stand up to a lot of power, but this is not what I am looking for. I want a clear dynamic JBL genuine sound:).From my perspective there are three builds. 2122, 2123 or 2202 for the midrange, 1.75" c.d. with the 2307/2308 or 4" c.d. with the 2311/2308 for the high frequency and 2405 for the ultra-high frequency. Their sound character is largely controlled by the network. You can tame them all using the 4344 Mk II network or let them breath using the 4355 network. The 4345 network is more like the 4355 network than the 4344 Mk II network.

The bottom end can be one or two 2231/2234/2235 or one 2245.

The 2123 and 2202 offer the greatest dynamic range while the 2122 is a bit smoother. My only complaint with the 2122 is the foam surround. The cloth surrounds last longer than you will.

I have always preferred the lower distortion 4" coils over the 1.75 for long listening sessions or any large playback systems. Use a coated dia in the 2446 or 2450 driver and you will never need to change.....

Agree with 4313 on the 2202 - again it's a 4" coil rather than a 3" in the 2123 and no foam to rot.

Double 15's seem to last longer suspension-wise over the 18's and are lighter to move ( by a little ) for lower power apps but power is cheap these days and headroom is EVERYTHING so get some big amps..:)

Of course I was thinking of buying some 500w monoblocks and find some here in my country but the price is expensive. Anyway I will buy it , and also I would like to buy a tube amplifier. If you have any suggestions please advice.
Also I saw on some posts that some users upgraded the 2441B . What do you think about it?
Thanks

Hmm....

A lot of people say go with tubes up top and a big SS amp below. There is nothing wrong with that, but that is like saying all blonds are beautiful.

Some big SS amps sound much better than others... and not all tube amps are worth the weight of their transformers.

If I had the budget, based on my real world experience, I'd go with a Pass Labs XA 30.5 up top and a pair of Halo JC-1s down below.
