I have three of these horns, 2371s and two spare B&W 801 cabinets. I was putting the horns on eBay when a lightbulb came on right over my head. The horns are mated with 2416H-1 drivers, which frankly sound terrible. They all came out of some nasty sounding G-730 PA speakers I got when I bought some monster Cerwin Vega power amps, which I love. The Array 1400 is the best sounding speaker I've ever heard, and I've been planning on some sort of clone in the future, but I was wondering if there is a driver that would mate up with these horns, along with a tweeter that would sound decent in this application? These would possibly keep me happy until I can afford the real thing, or at least a real clone. BTW, these horns are not the same as the 2370A three hole type sold ot Parts Express, the driver just screws on.

the G series used the 2415 driver which had holes in the phase plug vs the radial slits on the later 2416. the only way to tell is to remove the dia.

A *properly* aligned 2416H-1 works quite well and is used in the 4425 studio monitor.

You can also remove the adapter from a 2426 and use it BUT remember that the 2371 horn is shorter and has a different flare than the array model so many crossover changes are required.

My phase plug has holes, not slits, but the diaphragm is clearly stamped 2416. What do you mean by *properly* aligned? All three horns are identically marked. If this driver horn combo could be made to sound remotely hi-fi vs the way it sounds in the G-730, I would be astounded.

I'm assuming he means with a thorough, steep, crossover with appropriate corrections applied.

words are funny... I figured what was meant was physical alignment...
possibly the lower end drivers having to be adjusted a bit more, or more
often when installing a diaphragm.

It's a CD horn, which is a good thing, right? The same horns goes for almost $300 each at Parts Express. There must be a reason. I'm just going to start playing around with this idea tomorrow.

These drivers always get me confused. I have seen the G series drivers with holes and slots, both labeled 2415.

Yeah, but what should I screw into it? I can design a crossover, but I need something to work with.

The 2416 can sound OK. Maybe you are best to try with what you have.

The "progressive transition" horns and their equivalents (clones) from dayton and Pyle are pretty popular and have good CD behavior.

You could DIY the horn... it's rough though.

Played around with the 2416/7321 combo last night for an hour or two. Not very encouraging. There is a nasty peak in those puppies in the upper midrange. I'll hook up an eq tonight to zero in on where it is.
