They can go high depending on condition like up to $900 but that was a while ago and I have not been watching them lately. I think its been around $600 of late with some for less just search closed Ebay Auctions

On pictures plenty

Better is a relative term. L166's will not sound like L100's and it's really a personal choice. Just ask Bo he loves L100's. I used to love my L100's but have moved on. Fun to listen too but tastes change. Certainly not my first choice now.

A Melbourne, Australia, city CD store still uses L-166 as the shop monitor. They beat all other speakers I have ever heard in a CD shop. Don't bother making an offer, the owner won't part with them. Can someone explain why most shops who sell music use terrible speakers in their shops.

I hear them twice a week. In my opinion, they very superior to other speakers of that era in similar price range (mid 1970's) because of their excellent imaging and accuracy. Compared to other cheaper JBLs, the mids are free of colouration; treble is very controlled and crisp; the bass is tight but lacks the fatness which was very popular at that time. I seem to remember they are not as loud (low efficiency ?) as a consumer would expect for the price (approx $900 US).
