Hey,

what was the intended purpose of these chassis? I know so far the 2110 was the pro version of the others....
They seem to have very light cones and play extended range.
Are these guitar speakers, homehifi fullrange or pa midranges in arrays ?
Could I compare there sound to the K-110 ? Exept less power handling....

My cousin might wanna run them at home from lets say 60hz or 80hz fullrange with a 2405 at top...

Best regards,
Olaf

I have an older ampex 'suitcase' that has one of these drivers and a tube amp...
this unit was designed as a monitor to use when making recordings "in the field"
with the associated portable reel to reel recording system...

kinda like this one:

So the 2110 propably had been used as a guitar-speaker and the Dīs as hifi fullrange`s....

I put 4 D208's in a guitar amp I built.

You could click the library menu above and read the promo sheet on the 2110; you can also see a frequency response graph there; also read the early catalogues. Like the D130, D131, D123 and the later 2115 the D208 was used in single driver PA systems, as components in SR systems and as musical instrument speakers. Also, like other manufacturers in the '50's JBL not only sold separate drivers and enclosures, with charts of suggested combinations, but also promoted the idea of building block systems that the user could build one component at a time and have a complete speaker system eventually, even though, as in the case of the D130 instead of the 130A, one ended up with a less than idea combination. The D series was used that way. Oddly, the D208 was briefly offered in the Hartsfield as a low-dollar option. It's hard to believe today, but at that time credit card use was not widespread and the card user was expected to NOT carry a balance. And anyone who went into debt for audio gear would have been considered irresponsible by almost everyone. Imagine.

I believe the D208 was also used in a tiny Fender amp called the Champ.
