The correct kit for the 123A-1 is C8R2212

C8R2213 is the correct kit for 123A-3.

The cones are the same, and I think the coils are too, though the 2213 coil might be longer....can't recall from memory right now. The spider is smaller diameter on the 2212/123A-1

Thanks for clarifying this.

The 2213H kit does have a longer voice coil winding (by about 1/8"), but it will center up in the 123A gap fine.

From my experience, it makes no audible difference, in practice...

Gordon.

The 2213/123A-3 has better low frequency response and less distortion and a much larger diameter spider. Whether the coil fits into the gap or not is irrelevant. The coil won't be positioned in the gap correctly since the coils are different lengths....the kits are preassembled to fit properly into the intended frame.

Nothing like polluting the Legacy....sheesh.

Sorry, I missed the 123A-1 part above. That is a different frame, with a different spider diameter, as mentioned. The early frames have about a 5.25" spider diameter, while the later ones are closer to 6.5" spider diameter.

The -3 is the same frame as the 2213H. While the 123A-3 is frequently seen with a voice coil winding length that is about 1/8" shorter than the 2213H, the same kit will work, as since the frame is identical, the coil will line up vertically (in terms of even overhang on both sides of the top plate) correctly in the 123A-3 frame. This I have verified in practice.

For the OP above, this is not the kit to use, though. The 2212 would be the "pro" kit (C8R2212) that is the same dimensionally as the 123A-1. They share the same frame (narrow arms). I have not found evidence of these kits being readily available, unfortunately, though...

If you want to use the 2213H kit, it would be best to find a 123A-3 frame, and install it into that. Once you do that, you will wind up with what JBL themselves called an acoustic equivalent (and cosmetic equivalent, from the front) to the 123A-1...

Regards,
Gordon.
