Hi everyone, does anyone know if JBL ever made a 6" or 6.5" woofer that has the sonic match to the 112A/H? The reason I ask is that if there is such a driver I'd like to find a pair and put into my center channel speaker. My current center has two 112As and has a slightly heavier bass sound than the main L212s. And I was thinking if I used smaller midbass drivers the sound wouldn't be so "chesty."
If there aren't any 6" drivers that match, then I'll build a vertical center with only one 112A and have it mounted on a 2.5" high stand tilted back to angle the drivers up to the listening position.

Hello MJC,

Not that I know of.

"My current center has two 112As and has a slightly heavier bass sound than the main L212s."

As would be expected, only use one.

"And I was thinking if I used smaller midbass drivers the sound wouldn't be so "chesty.""

I suppose you could try two 115H-1's (L20t, 18Ti, 4406, XPL90A, XPL200A, etc.) in sealed enclosures...

The reason I'm using two 112A is the fact that the center is the typical horizontal speaker. In fact quite a bit like the center GT designed for the Performance Series. But looking at pictures of the PS center it looks like GT put a 20* angle on the mid-bass baffle, I had only done 10*. And he used smaller mid-bass drivers than what is used in the mains.

But I've tried one of the L212 towers w/o the base for a center sitting about 2 to 3 inches off the floor and tilted back. It gave me a pretty close sound to that of the main L212s. At that height the top just clears the bottom of the rptv screen. So with a short tower the 066 and the 2105 will be at the same position as with the horizontal, only the position of the 112A will be closer to the floor. So I'll quess I'll make a L212 with a tilted short base.

Yeah, I've had similar difficulties.

I mentioned the 115H-1 because it is roughly 4 dB less efficient than the 112A/H so two might balance a bit better.

The 5-channel L212 system I did had the front three L212 panels mounted behind a perforated screen.

For systems without perforated screens I've had to resort to 8-inch and 10-inch 3-way systems built like the 4411.

I'll look for two 115H-1, but I'll also build another L212 panel. And if I should get a pair of 115H-1 and like the way they sound then I'll have another L212 panel for the back surround.

Just for gp. My wish list: to have in my HT room; my L212s, Performance Series, Jamesloudspeakers, Energy Veritas, and Infinity Prelude. Having heard all these except the PS it would be one hell of an ABCDE comparision.
