Hello -

Today I came across and purchased a pair of Altec Lansing Super Duplex 604e and both with 1500a crossovers. They are in excellent shape and the cabinets did not seem to ever be opened until I did so....... I will post images later on today but in the mean time what can I learn bout these - I did hook one up to my system and it sounded pretty good but may need some DeOxit on the crossover- is this something that could help (sound Wise). Also I was wondering if altec ever made formica laminated cabinets? These cabinets are completely covered in wood grain formica. On the interior these is acoustical brown waffled "insulation".

Pics soon -

Well as promised - one question?

Are the stamped numbers on the baskets, cones and crossovers serial numbers - do they date the speakers - these things are immaculate - I listen to one as I write this - "Stop Making Sense" - Talking Heads.

The other speaker is still in the van - I need to summon more energy as these are BEASTS. The cabinets measure 30 x 19 x 24.5" and look to me to be a DIY late 60s or 70s? The tweeters read 9.2 ohms and the woofers 12.2 - are those reading appropriate?

Thanks ALL>

I will repost more.

you got yourself a nice driver/crossover set! I wouldn't mind finding a pair like that
at a pleasantly low price :) I've heard two systems based on that particular driver
and both were quite enjoyable.

Great speakers! The six digit code on the frame is an Altec Date code. The first three digits (391) are Altec's standard date code prefix, the fourth digit is the last digit of the year the speaker was produced (in your case it's an 8, stands for 1968), and the last two digits (21 in your case) are the week your speaker was produced. So, your speaker was manufactured the 21st week of 1968 (May 1968)......
