Hi everyone! I need help identifying these 2225H. Are these cones original, OEM JBL recones, or aftermarket recones? Here are some pictures:

From the front, they appear to be authentic JBL cones, but I'm not so sure with the style of the handwriting and texture of the cone on the back. However, I'm no JBL expert and I refer to you guys here for your expert tech support :D

I forgot to mention that the handwriting says "2225H" and "4/28/88"

be sure to have a JBL repair center replace the internal foam so it doesn't rot and fall into the gap..way overdue.

Replace?
How do you it without reconing?
I usually remove it and forget about it. :D

So, maxjr, did you finally find the speakers you wanted?

Does the dust cap need to be removed to get to the internal foam? Around how much should I expect to pay for this?

I think so! :D. I'm just waiting to hear back from the seller for the DCR. They look to be in good condition, and there's no rubbing of the voice coil. Is there anything else you would ask the seller to check (buying them online, so I won't be able to test them out and listen to them in person) Thanks in advance!

No, you have to remove the foilcal however but this can be done in ways so it won't be damaged and can be glued back.

All you need is a flashlight, a little stick like a pencil, some masking tape and a long middle finger :D

Lay the speaker flat, cone down.
After removing the foilcal, reach inside the vent and punch through the foam, all the particles are going to fall inside the dust cap. DO NOT FLIP THE DRIVER!
Apply a piece of tape to the pen (sticky side out) and go fishing for all the pieces in the dust cap.

Reach inside with your finger and rub off all the remaining foam from the pole piece arount the vent, it's usually not more than 1/4 3/8 wide around the vent.

Carefully remove with the pencil and tape every little piece that falls into the dust cap.
Tap the cone gently so the debris gather in the center where they're easily seen and picked up.

Do not try blowing air, vacuum cleaner or other stunts! It will only disturb the debris and will send them all over the place, including the gap.

Glue the foilcal back on and you're done.

Thanks, Eaulive! I'm curious though, what is the purpose for the foam that JBL initially installed them for? Will it affect the sound quality of the speakers once removed?

My assumption has been that it was to keep crap out the voice coil gap :rotfl:
I assume also that there is some resistive flow effect, however small.
I assume further that there will really be no audible effect at stay-in-the-room levels.
It's apparently just an :moon:-umption kind of day.

Yeah, talk about an irony :banghead:

I doubt it has any audible effect... until it gathers like a ball of goo and pushes the VC against the top plate. :crying:

Do you suggest to put a new piece of foam just behind the folical net????

I wouldn't bother about it, unless you have a lot of flying debris in an enclosure where the driver is mounted facing down.

If you're concerned about dust... while you have the foilcal off, you can glue a small square of grille fabric on top of the screen wire in the center of the foilcal, so that it's underneath the foilcal when it's glued back on. That will do 99% of what the foam filter did.

Thanks, for suggestion, but I have put "internal 'filter'". we shall see how it would last.
