Hi guys, is it possible to recone a 2241h to a 2245h? and what is the caractoristics of 2245's with their surrounds replaced by the surrounds of a 2241h.
Thanks
Mike.

Sorry,Wont work as those are not interchangeable recone kits. Not to mention that the motors are two different individual styles.Oldmics

You need to find a E-155 or a 2240 (or 2245) basket to make 2245's.....both of which aren't too tough to find around here...not sure about your local.

Giskard,

This sort of information would be a very useful aspect of the reference forums.

Perhaps Edgewound could offer assistance.

A 2245 and 2240 are compatable, no others if I remember correctly.

Okay cool it Mr,

No need to Slam the door on me:confused: .

Look, we realise there are only so many hours in a day....but your learning..let others in and you will get help.

It was just a flow on idea from our chat this morning.

The more we all work together on the forums as opposed to in them the easier it will become to maintain.

Well its ironic that I have a 2245 basket beside me..now that's spooky..

Maybe those in the know can spot the problem.

This one bottomed inwards as I recall on 70 volts DC.

After that the voice coil rubbed and shorted intermittently.

They're not rated for that...;) what happened, PS regulator in an amp fail?

This thread will get cleaned up as soon as we're through messing it up. :p
It can't be all nose to the grindstone stuff, sometimes we gotta play!

Well there''s something for you 2245 recone sexperts to chew on.

Close....a dry solder joint lifted one rail and she suck in like a Black Hole then blew gently out. That was when the cold sweat set in......:biting:

Masking tape my ass, I prefer gaffa tape when I'm trying to muzzle someone.

Those appear to be generic gaskets on the outer edge. That and there are no holes in the foam where the screws would mount the speaker to the baffle board.

If it was a refoam it also looks like the coil ever so slightly was scraping on the left side of the photo.

The turn down winding is pretty well exposed where it goes thru the spider.

Course the "G" Man is right. The real problem is the gap impediment.

Yes it was refoam and probably not a good one on my part.

Oh well another trip to the recone shop.

Lucky I have a spare.

Ian...I know exactly what's wrong....you broke it..:D

J/K..well not really...need more shots of the VC to see possibilities. Maybe there's an arc burn on the outside of the VC caused from making contact with the top-plate side of the gap. Maybe the lead wire pulled away from the solder eyelet at the cone. Maybe a broken winding at the bottom of the coil stack. Could very well be a break in the coil wire that leads back up the coil former to the cone collar. A maginfying glass will be helpful...especially if you have 44+ year old eyes...lol. Put your ohmmeter on the beeping continuity checker on the remaining lead wires and fiddle/probe around the entire voil coil topography to see if you can get audible continuity beep. Takes some patience and detective work...but hey...you moderate this forum...I'm confident that you have both of these skills. :)

Happy hunting,

Edgewound

Hi,

Very observant. I might try and fix it and use it as an inductive dummy load or as hat on the odd chance that I land the Tardis is China on a sunny day...quite fashionable over there me thinks.

The spider is in poor condition now so I can't see it going back in.
