View Full Version : Pair of E90’s for $75 – Pushed In Voice Coil Cap

Hi all.

My friend called me and told me about a pair of Northridge E90’s at a garage sale. I went out and got them for $75! Mine are in black. One has a pushed in voice coil dust cap though - the center of the 8 inch woofer. I'm thinking to try to suck it out with a vacuum cleaner, very carefully. Do you have any advice for fixing that? A friend of mine had a pair, and they are a great speaker. :)

Any advice on fixing this yet? I looked up the bass drivers, and they were sold quite inexpensively by JBL, but they no longer have them.:(

The plastic and aluminum dust caps are sometimes easiest to un-poke with a piece of tape. I've never had any success with a vacuum.

Do you have any advice for cleaning up the finish? It's the black oak. I was thinking a barely damp cloth, and then some Pledge. I also have to find a Bi-wire shorting strip, although I know any wire would work. :o:

4-0 steel wool will help, if it's just dirty then some type of cleaner? I expect they are not veneer but a plastic laminate.

The shorting bars are available from JBL, but at $14 each a piece of copper wire looks pretty good and works better.

Oh o.k. I looked those up also, and they are a bit pricey. LOL
