I am looking into getting my son a pair of vintage JBLs as a gift to help him complete his system. He is using all Adcom components, the amp a 535. I am looking at L19, L40, and L50. Are these pretty good performing speakers or would there be any particular model to stay away from? thanks all

I'm of the opinion that the L46 and L86 offer the very best combination of newish technology, vintage bulletproof-ness and nicely balanced sound. Also can be had for next to nothing. To put it another way, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to give either as a gift, and have.

I agree w/RD that the L86 is a little jewel , very balanced...but its bass wont be overpowering (8in LF)...in that price range ..speakers with a 10 such as L36 or L26 (another of my favs) are very satisfying ..the L40 certainly is quite good also.
