View Full Version : How do I find out if a reconed driver has original JBL cone?

I have a few second hand JBL drivers. I am a bit worried that the cones are not original JBL parts.

For example, according to goes into list (http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Goes%20Into%20List/Goes%20Into%20List.pdf) a 2226h cone has part number C8R2226. One of my drivers has 71649-02 printed on it. I guess this is not JBL original :-(.

So how do I recognize orignal JBL cones?

Orange speaker gaskets are a first clue..if you can see the voice coil leads on the top side of the cone and they look like round wire glued down, it's a fake...if the number on the cone is preceeded by a "WHF" (Waldom high fidelity) it's a fake too.

C8R2226 the part number for the recone kit assembly, not the actual cone. Pictures would help identify your units.

I'll take a look to see if I've got any take-outs that have your number on the cone.

Exactly, AFAIK the original cone does not have hand writings either.

When I say "original" I mean the cone that came, installed in a driver, out of the factory.

Ok...I checked an OEM cone. 71649-02 is the OEM cone part number for the 2226.

I just picked up some 2245's and I'm about 100% sure the cones are aftermarket.
There's a stamp on the back of the cone, any one have an idea of the mfg? At least I don't see WHF!

Real 2245s have Aquaplas on the back of the cone. Yours are aftermarket.

OEM=JBL? Where did you check? Is the information available on the internet?

Oh, I see.

Thanks very much Edgewound.

I think it would be great to have a list of original JBL part numbers for cones available on the internet, so that Edegwound doesn't have to check every cone of every member manually :-)

I agree and I bump this thread, as I will go check for possible 2226Hs to buy for a friend today.
For the record and posterity, the 2225H has the number 76076 stamped on the back of the cone.
