.
bought a well reviewed replacement stylus for my Shure V-15T3 phono cartridge..90% of the time its outstanding....BUT , the letter "S" in vocals is "spitty" sounding.

I've double checked alignment, overhang ...adjusted VTF between 1.2 and 1.9 grams ....have fiddled with preamp settings ... no joy :(

I've never had this problem on any other cart ... the old original stylus doesnt do this .... am I missing something ? :dont-know:

I'd ask the vendor... maybe they'll send you a replacement.

took your advice Dave...

sent this to vendor:

Hi

I just received a V-15 T3 stylus from you 2 days ago ...having a problem

I asked my forum about it here , and to avoid retyping , I'll paste the link

http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?30740-quot-Spitty-S-ss-quot-on-new-stylus&p=309298#post309298

am I doing something wrong ? or is it defective ?

at 5 minutes BEFORE I sent the above msg (according to timestamps)

got this back:

Hi,

I'm sorry you're having trouble. 1.5 grams is optimum VTF for that stylus. Less will create sibilance (spitty highs). It looks like you're in that range so I think the stylus must be defective. That's certainly not common but it does happen. This is a hand made product. What's your address so we can send you a replacement?

es

AND

OK,

Thanks! We'll get your replacement on the way and, again, I'm sorry about the first one.

es

Outstanding !!! will post results on the replacement :D

Is it a Shure stylus? I have 2 V15-III's.... I have never had to have it track as heavy as 1.2 grams, they have always given me best results between .75 and 1 gram...less and the low end won't track correctly and going much over a gram made it look like the lever was really taking a beating.
Both mine have original Shure styli....if you are using an aftermarket stylus, it might not be that good...and since you say the old stylus doesn't do it...well....

the old stylus/cart was original on my Dual 701 TT (can you imagine ?? today the supplied is the CHEAPEST available) ...the Dual manual speced to set VTF at 1.5 ....the 1970's stylus is still useable, but cantilever is saggy. Vendor is also recommending 1.5 , and thats where I started..and worked both up & down by abt .4

Shure stopped making replacements for the V-15 series long ago.

es was as good as his word....replaced it quickly...

I did dial in little more VTF (having some doubts abt my scale)
and not reporting any more problems.

really like V-15T3's ...they suit my needs/style

overall , i would recommend "es" if you are looking for "bang 4 the buck" :bouncy:
