Plywood makes poor adapters, but I was in a hurry.

The adapter goes from 1 1/2" to the same angle as the back wall of the horn, you can see the whole bugscreen from the very edge of the horn.

Maybe a little down from the 175, but that thing looks like a 1 1/2' exit, too. Maybe seems down because of the horn, but it still images with the stock 800, can't be too bqd off.

All I can say is that it sounds a lot better than you'd think it would.

The really whack part is that with the Smith leaned up against the little 800 like that, you can stand a few feet in front of it and swear the sound was coming out of the Array horn.

I like the 435AL drivers on these horns. The actual entry slot on the horn is 1 1/2", just like the hole in the driver. Everything seems to line up. even with plywood adapters.

Actually I would think it would work well with the throatless transition into a horn with a similar entry dimension as the driver phase plug exit.

I hooked 'em both up, and while the Smith horn ain't designed to be run vertical, it's not nearly as absolutely directional as I'd have thought.

There is a definite sweet spot, but I'm in an adjacent room and it still sounds great. In the sweet spot, the imaging is really tight. The speakers are a little farther apart now than in the pic, but that's all the speaker wire I'm using for this experiment.

And I'm not looking to replce the 800 Array horn, I just had these Smith clone/435AL units I wanted to try and the Array 800 horn was easy to tap into.

I tend to think the differences between the 1.75" driver and the 3" driver are pretty noticeable, but the different horns and network designed for the 175ND makes that subjective.

I'll get off my dead ass and zap some FR curves one of these days, but since there's probably not a single other person on the planet with an identical set-up, I'm not in any hurry.

I don't know. I run the 435AL on those Smith clone horns pictured. They are crossed at 1kHz and 8kHz, so they are operating right in the sweet spot of the graph and sound excellent IMHO.

1audiohack did the measurements on a 2397; the 2450Be on a 2328 and the 435AL on the flat wood adapter shown. He sent me the graph, I just took a stab at posting it to see if I could get enough resolution to make it viewable. Didn't happen, but I left it up anyway.
