Upgrading / modding S7R Olympus

My latest project starts with a stock C50 S7R. I want to add some 2405 tweeters and build some crossovers from scratch. Would this setup be a good candidate for Giskard's modded 3133 crossovers? The mid and tweets are the same, but a different woofer. Would it be better to use the LX5 specs for the woofer?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am NOT a crossover design guy, but I can execute any circuit meticulously. Just trying to improve where possible and have some fun at the same time.

I guess the LF section will need some other values, and you can't use the LF section from LX5 since the 3133 have higher crossover frequency.

But I guess you could use the LF section from 3110.

Is there a compression driver and wood horn set that would work nice in place of a 2405? Something I could just set on top of the cabinet? Something like a Smith horn or 2397. How about a 2461 (couple on Ebay now).

Why not use something like the Teak boxes that are up on ebay. You need the 2405 as close to seated ear height as you can get it and you could just drop in on top. 4313B crossover is for the L300 different woofer than the S7. You should get his input about how suitable it would be.

...and you think THAT looks good? I mean, why use Olympus cabs if not for their aesthetic appeal? If the goal is a high performance JBL system, I'd start from scratch and... well, in a few months I'll show you what I'd so. ;)

Personally, I would replace the LE15A with a 2235H, and make them a 4344 if the cab volume works.

Widget I really respect you as a designer and we all know your execution is second to none. Can I be you when I grow up...Seriously though, will a horn on top (besides the look I like) give me much over a 075 or 2405 in the cab? I do like the idea of a 2235H. I have them in my "Widgets" and love them. Are you still for hire on some wood or MDF horns? Do you have something laying around you would part with?

Great minds think alike. I was thinking about the process to cut a westlakes clone into the cabinet, seeing how these are for me and I'm not looking to flip. I already found some walnut in wide planks. I have some vanes already cut and the driver mounting block.

It always starts this way. A simple purchase turns into a major project.

If you are talking HF extension not really. The 075 dies off at 15K and is a flashlight beam up there. The 2405 will get you out past a little 20K. Most 1" drivers will be cutting out between 15-20K with the dispersion dependant on the horn but always limited by the 1 inch throat diameter unless there is a difraction slot in there. Think 2344. This will all be in a much larger package compared to the 2405.

Yes both holes cut and covered at present. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I'm in research mode, trying to gather as much information as I can. Better information yields better decisions.

Would I better off to focus more on upgrading or using a large horn for the mids and loose the LE85? Maybe a 2441 on a Westlakes horn clone sitting on top. I could then make a block off for the existing cabinet hole and possibly cut that to fit the 2405/077. Again, brainstorming.

I still think there'd be room to get a 2" compression driver/horn combo mounted into the cab (a la Westlake above) and have room for a tweeter in the hole provided. You should be able to mount a 2405 in the same hole as the 075 would mount into?

If you are going to start cutting up the cabinets what are you going to do about the fretwork grills?? How much room do you have behind them?? Anything with depth beyond the standard lense may not fit behind them. You could certainly put quite a large horn up top.

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards putting a large horn on top and mounting the tweeter in the cab. It still keeps the look of the Olympus. I really like how rloggie's looked with that big westlakes sitting on top and the lattice grills in place.

One step at a time. I'll get them refinished, add the tweeter and look for or build some horns. I have the vanes and mounting block I got from Bill Martinelli.

Which now brings me to what driver. Because I'm not going original and don't want to pay collector prices for a 375, any recommendation? I was thinking 2441.
