Hi all,

I am after some feedback on tad drivers vs JBL drivers, are the better ??

Would they make my JBL Everest dd 55000 sound better if I used these??

I would appreciate some feedback from anyone who has had experience in this
Area...

Regards Joe....

Hi Joe,

you should wait till the truextent 1,75" Beryllium dias for the 1" JBL drivers are out. Put them into your 2426 and you are done.
The 4" dias are out for a while now and they are stunning.
It's not announced when the 1,75" dias will be available. Probably next year.

Will those be compatible with other 44mm voice coil drivers, like the B&C DE-250?

Guido, have you heard about 2405 dias?

I don't know abut B&C. If the B&C dia is compatible with the 2425(6) then yes. If not, then no.

That's a dream for the future. We don't even know when the 1,75 inch dias will be available:(

this question has been covered before by Bernard W. on the s3100 thread and it got me wondering again whether the up coming 1.75" dias will be a drop-in for the 2426 titanium dias of the s3100....

a drop-in would mean no system crossover tweaking needed to optimize it in the s3100..

......and the S/2600?

It's in the nature of the material (Be) that it won't be a drop in for a 2 way system with HF EQ.

hi tom,

sorry i left out the beloved s2600...:)

thanks guido,

dang, i thought i had a summer project in my hand......

i'm thinking very simplistically here, but isn't it that the BE dias will simply be asked to reproduce the same frequency as those of the 2426 dias?

what other factors come into play? sensitivity differences, phase problems? ...is this right?

cheers

my understanding is that the compensation built into the
network itself would likely need to be adjusted to account for the
higher level of HF response from the Be diaphragmed driver....

thanks LG.

...and i wonder again if an added resistor in the path to the tweeters will do the trick...:banghead:

i would think you could straight wire jumper the compensation out of the existing network also, right?

honestly i don't know...i'm just guessing...i have little electrical engineering in university before i dropped out...:D

we need the techies here....zilch, guido et al...

Exactly!

As long is I don't have the 1,75" Be dias on hand I can't say how the new compensation looks like.

Well said ;)

I will know it first hand when these dias are available and I'll report.

For those who are interested I had this reply back from Brush Wellman yesterday ...... Quote ...

"We currently have 4 inch diameter voice coil replacement diaphragms available and we are considering future development of multiple replacement beryllium diaphragms. One of the designs we are considering for development is a 1.75 inch voice coil diameter diaphragm that is compatible with a number of compression drivers including JBL's 2425/6. I anticipate that we will be deciding on a diaphragm design for development within the next few months and it will then be approximately one year before those diaphragms are available"
........ I can't wait :applaud: ..... it will save me from having to buy TAD 2001's

I think you are going to find they are much further along in this process and they will be available sooner.

That will be excellent if this is correct, do we have any idea on prices yet? ..... any owners of LEAP interested in re-designing the crossover network for the 4430/4435 :bouncy:

If you give us frequency response and impedance graphs of a Truextent 1,75" dia in a 2426 on a 2344 horn with pleasure ;)

:o: This was meant as a joke :o:

I'll have the 1,75" dias first as I'm a truextent dealer. So I gladly make the neccessary files. If I have the time I'll also make the compensation network. It will not be before summer/fall 2011
