Beautiful!

Please list your components and crossover type/frequencies.

Which mid horns are you using?

Thanks for the post.

BTW: I thought with this new forum we could only post one photo per post.

How is the mutual coupling with those 2242H's? I can't remember what you have them tuned to, what was it? What is the low pass set at? Did you ever sell your 2245H's?

Mr. Widget,

Tanks! :)

Each subwoofer enclosure hosts two 2242H and is tuned to 27Hz. The internal volume is approximately 700 liters.

Each midbass enclosure hosts a 2226H. The internal volume of each enclosure is approximately 140 liters.

The wooden horn uses a 2446H each. The horns are built by-hand and are made out of American white-oak.

The system is actively driven with separate amplifiers for each register. The amplifiers and crossover frequencies are listed below:

The Subwoofers is driven by a Mark Levinson No.336, crossed at 60Hz
The midbass enclosures are driven by a Rotel RB-991, crossed between 60Hz and 500Hz
The wooden horns are driven by a Mark Levinson No.331, crossed at 500Hz

Giskard,

Tanks! ;)

I think that the mutual coupling phenomenon is contributing to the enormous sound pressures that can be produced in my listening room ;) ... However I haven't conducted any measurements that can verify this.

I still have those 2245H's. Unfortunately they need to be reconed before I can use them.

Yeah the badge is printed on the back of JBL professional loudspeakers. You’re not going to sue Dave, now for copying you’re avatar? :p

I change my avatar around every month or so with tiny little JBL professional logo in the upper right or lower corner right depending on the image. This month I’ve suited up my cat, Sooty as space cat for the last space shuttle launch hopeful around the end month, unless they don’t have technical issues or weather holding the shuttle down.

I find that most tend to stick with the same avatar? Only a few around here rarely change there’s each month.

Nice set of JBL, L series. :) Do you place the smaller tower models aside of the seating or placed near to the wall as possible mounted up a bit so that they radiate over the seating area?

There’s also a thread on JBL L series that might have eluded you?

Reading that thread is why I bought them. I got lucky and found them all on CL in about 2 weeks. The L5's are placed aside as surrounds. I just placed them there for the picture. Multichannel music is wonderful on this system. So are movies. Still buying and selling used amps trying to find the perfect affordable match for them. The amps I am using now are old NAD 2200's bridged at over 300 wpc. They sound the best of any I have tried on the L7's but a Carver M1.0T is the best I have found for the L5's.

Wow, well I’d say you got lucky. ;) Was it good deal on them second hand was it hefty price or really affordable? Was there any minor cosmetic ware and tare to them, did they need any of this reforming nonsense?

Oh, that NAD range nice looking as well they made some cool NAD THX amps around the 90’s that was bit costly at the time. Were they in good nick when you brought I gather second hand.

Great deal on the speakers. Minor blemishes for their age and no re foaming needed. I have been buying broken amps cheap and repairing them, usually it is a simple fix. So I would say I have a fraction of what they are worth in them.

In theory the 2205A would make a better sub since it has a FS of 30Hz, while the K140 has a FS of 40Hz. Both the 2205A and K140 have the same power rating of 300W, the K140 sensitivity 98db and the 2205A is 97db. I would need a little more power to get the same db level if I used the 2205A for the sub and a little less power for the mid bass if I used the K140 for this.
I have thought of swapping them around to see if I get better low bass, maybe next year.

^^W:applaud:W^^ that is a class A rating like the assorted JBL assembly along with some flat panel loudspeakers, I see that you have some real cinema seats with cup-holders, I like the colour. Very nice indeed.

So let me guess you use the outer JBL not sure of the model number I’ve seen them before there a classic vintage type from the late 70’s? Along with a slight mismatch in the centre pair for centre channel no doubt and the large 18” not sure what model they are? So do you have a modified crossover arranged so that you can play them as standard full range and with Dolby digital channel you have the crossover to work on the LFE.1 while diverting away from the mid to high range as the crossover switches off, no? I’m only guessing? lol

A little more information on how this system operates, more pictures please.

Well if you have neighbour below LOL with a wooden floor it sounds horrendously LOUD like and earthquake everything rattles! :D That was at one of my other digs the neighbour was red face.:p So if you have wooden floor try downward firing making notes first, with forward facing then flip them over and have another listen as well as noting the difference in the feel of it.

You can mount the 2345's in the top section of the 4560.
http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Theatre%20Series/4663A.pdf

That panel is made to be removed for that purpose. Then, you can mount the tweet below it, inside the horn. That is how mine came from the factory, and that location for the HF driver helps protect it.
My 4560's are loaded on my trailer for a rare public appearance, at an area ski slope tmrw. night for this event. http://skimadriver.com/BurtonKickoff
Should be a blast. I traded the resort 2 movie nights for 5 season passes with rentals.
I'll also have my other JBL's there, but the 4560's will point up the hill, as nothing carries quite like they do! I just run them as 2 way, with 2226 and 2426 on 2370A.

Thanks to everyone for the response and kind words. I have included more pics.

I drive the Carvers with 2 Hafler 9500's bridged mono at 750 watts each. Really wakes the Carver's up. I drive the JBL L300's with a Nakamichi PA-7 at 200 watts per channel.

In comparing the Carvers with the L300's, I drive each pair with the Haflers (not at the same time). I find the Carvers are much stronger in the bass, no comparison. I find the L300's sound much more realistic in the mid and upper frequencies. The Carvers will get louder while remaining crystal clear. The L300's start to sound a little rough in the midrange when cranked really high. The Carvers do not break a sweat at 112-114 db in my room.

I noticed the duel double the trouble for loves rocker seats at the front left and right with single rockers for the back row very nice set-up.

So how much did you rockers cost? Where they second hand or brand new?

I noticed these double rockers a few years ago, I’m looking for the other picture I have one that is covered with blue fabric. Picture was taken in one of the smaller digital screens at Empire Leicester Square, London.

I boasted the contrast brightness the original picture was way too dark.

How high did you raise the platform behind it looks like 6” to 7” high?

I plan to raise my rear row of rockers up at 8” so that the seats have clear view, with 20” leg room as its tiny room and your room is bit wider and longer than mine, nice space to walk around. I also noted you have fabric on the armrests, I have plain ole plastic with cup-holders, I would prefer fabric armrests but, I’m not moaning, x6 seats set me back £477.00 second hand.

So yours is a 9 seat, I could push mine to 9 seats but that would at least 1.5 meters close to the front. The front does offer ((wild wide stereo)) the further you move back the stereo becomes narrower. So good planning and listening to get hard pan sounds left/front and right/front easy to hear! Also half panned sounds between the, centre/front left/front and centre/front right/front.

You don’t have any bass shakers hiding under the floor do you?:D

I only have one seat set-up at present until I get the MDF to lay down the floor, I the timber for first part which is cheap as chips, it’s the MDF that is costly at £26.00 each sheet x3 full 4x8 and at least x2 more sheets that need to be cut to size to fit in the room.

Got together with Robh 3606 yesterday to listen to some JBLs & try to break up the winter doldrums a bit so I decided to get to get a few shots of the usual suspects since we had everyone together. Most of these guys reside in the dungeon so it was nice to take them out for a little fresh air.

I'd like to thank Rob for all his help and for the tasty beverages he brought over, we certainly had a nice time listening to all the different speakers, some of which I had totally forgotten about. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice some of the underdogs actually sounded, in particular the L150s, L5s & L166s (the big boys go without saying). We went through quite a few gear changes but thats obscured once they were set up for their snap shots.

I'd also like to give a big thanks to Clark (Ducatista47) & Mr. Macaroonie who have been so gracious and patient with their help and advice in setting up the 4345s which have been a little daunting for me, but more about that in another thread, and of course to everyone here directly or indirectly, a sincere thanks guys!

In the last shot they're all dressed up and ready to go to the prom :D
:
ps: sorry about the size of the pictures guys, I'm still trying to figure that out.

Hi Mr. Widget!
Thank you! Its been a downward slide ever since I got my first pair of JBLs (L166) and a Pioneer SX-1080, thankfully my wife has been a good sport about it :)
Another reason for the family portrait is that I may have to thin out the herd a little but that is going to be easier said than done.

SHOW OFF! :D

WOW that’s way too many JBL to choose from?

I like the studio 43 the ones with baby butt horn.

ps: sorry about the size of the pictures guys, I'm still trying to figure that out.

Nothing wrong with image size its just a little over the edge! To resize to look at the top task menus for
“Image” click and then look for
“Stretch/Skew” clink and you’ll see four boxes to enter in % numbers to scale the image down or up.

Enter in equal numbers in the stretch bar that are lower than 100% and then press OK. I’d say you need to reduce by 80% virtual and horizontal to fit within the sites normal page.

thats a fun collection ...very nice :applaud:

I've recently discovered a secret axiom .... "Stored speakers play NO music" .....and am therefore getting down to just the ones that I really like and setting the herd FREE (metaphorically speaking) ....(hold message up to flame to read ..it is secret after all ;))

Just the same as recommended for your computer maintenance ...ask yourself ..."Have I used this program in the last 6 months" ??? If the answer is NO or if it is not a useful tool to be saved for a special use .. dump it.....applies to aging electronics too

Agree! thats whats been going through my mind lately and some of them will have to be put up for adoption, though not for "medical experiments":montyp:
Seawolf, if you had a picture of all the speakers that have come through your door it would easily rival this humble collection & filled the room to the rafters :) I for one would have liked to see that.

Ashley, thanks for the info my friend :)

Family Portrait...for posterity

That's a really nice looking room; the speakers aren't half bad either.

Seriously, marvelous collection -- thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys, my pleasure! Its been a lot of fun working on the Addiction" :)
As you know I started to re-do this room in 2008, full gut, there are a lot of things that are not completed in that space due to me starting other house improvement projects. I am loathe to admit that the 4345s have been languishing in an inactive state for about 2 years while my attention had been drawn elsewhere. Happily I've gotten past my inertia and started putting some juice into those boxes and have been really enjoying the heck out of them. They are really wonderful speakers and put everything else in that room to shame by comparison (but thas kind of unfair as you can well imagine).

Hi Rich ! ,
You my friend were certainly one of the catalyst for my lusting after those 4345s and I thank you for that :) (eternally grateful).

Are those L5 Grills upside down? They look great that way!

That looks fantastic, Krunchy. You're a man after my own heart. Too much is never enough.

I too am in a thinning mode of sorts, having gotten rid of a lot of Performance Series gear over the past few years: some L7s, S26s, E50s, L60Ts, 4412As, and recently the SVA2100s and Center, but so much more to do... :o:

Hello Ferrell,
I think its the lighting actually, compounded by the frontal shot, they are right side up.

Thanks TD,
Its a vicious cycle to say the least, they always seem to sneak in through the back door. As a matter of fact you gave us the heads up on the L5s in the picture, stating that someone should grab them....and I did (this was a while back) and Im glad I did.
Along with the speaker I have some gear as well that will have to be downsized, its all part of the process/fun.
Good luck with your thinning :)

Krunchy thats quite the collection you have there. Never sell the 4313's they are the dogs bollocks other than that if you were to thin out somewhat you could start maybe, perhaps, possibly just a little even consider investigating the world of , and I do say this advisedly ...... Mark Levinson.
And yes I am aware of where you have been going lately and appreciate what is behind Clarks ideas.
Just sayin is all

Best to you Mac

Hello Mac!
Its pretty funny you mention that, I made the exact observation to Rob when he was here. I could get rid of everything else but not the 4313Bs, those are my favorite speakers period. When Rob was here we had been auditioning a few sets of speakers but once we listened to the 4313Bs we both just kind of looked at each other in acknowledment....speaker goood:homer:

I love the 4345s but just their sheer size would be/is limiting in certain scenarios, whereas the 4313B are quite manageable & they just sound so sweet.
The herd will be thinned out & that goes for the speakers & some amps as well, I know you are quite fond of ML and for good reason I am sure, perhaps in the near future, never say never.

Be well Mac :)

Hi Regis!
Thanks for the kind words, the room has worked out well since it allows me to be isolated from the rest of the house while I play my music at a decent volume.
The wall between that room & the rest of the house is doubled up 5/8" gyp board and insulated & that has really helped out quite a bit.
As for the WAF that is a non issue, fortunately she is very understanding.

Quite fond of ML is not really gettiing it into context , I have been round the race track with most of the big name amps at one time or another , Krell , Treshold, Boulder , Counterpoint , Quad , less so Crown admittedly ARC and so on. If there was ever one make of amp that was not 'there ' at all in the sound it was ML. I mean to say practically zero attributal influence other than gain. Sometimes to the point of being spooky. If I had the dosh ML would be my go to without reservation.
A short anecdote , a nice fellow from said company that I knew well gave me a fairly technical rundown on the amps that they made over the years and asserted that the old ML 11 is one of the bestest and truest most accurate etc amps they ever made period. I would not disagree from subjective experience.
No affil whatsoever. I'm just illuminating the output from a comany that had an ethic that would not entertain compromise , kinda like JBL
PM me about this . Connectorcut is not that far from you , I could prob arrange you a visit maybe.

Had a great time and thanks again for your hospitality. Those 4313 were really quite nice, my favorites for sure of the smaller systems. Glad you posted the pictures. Have to get together again and with any luck the snow will be gone:D It just keeps coming:banghead:

Ever have trouble getting out the house, some days?

The picture with the grilles in place seems, somehow, more soothing, Yes? Like all that exposed hardware sans grills brings on a sense of danger.

Goofy thought came to mind thinking about Saturday-stupid-frat-party-nights in my past. "I know, let's hook all of the speakers at once?" Something goes screech. A smoking receiver, no sound, what a downer.

Hi Rob,
My pleasure, we'll definitely get together again once this mad winter action is over, that was a lot of fun.

Hi DavidF

The picture with the grilles in place seems, somehow, more soothing, Yes? Like all that exposed hardware sans grills brings on a sense of danger. Very true, especially since my kids are always playing around in there or the dog is chasing some sort of toy that inadvertently winds up very near the speakers, in particular the 4345. If I am not in the room listening the grilles are always in place.
