Personally, only a little over 100 miles for some L7's. My bud in Texas has been over 500 {couple times} for 43XX's. Heck, my last [large] purchase was delivered about 200 so he could be sure I was happy. You?

Fairfax to Phiily and back for my since-sold 4320s ... about 300mi round, I think
Fairfax to York, PA for my 4341s - about 225mi round, I believe
The L200 Cabinets were in Aberdeen, MD - about 190 miles round trip.

I did the Fairfax to Philadelphia run for my 4660a's to get those Everest 5500 style horns.
If those 2360's for $300 were just a little closer? (FL to CA) :D

I drove to a foreign country (Tsawwassen, British Columbia)
for my 250Ti's ...it was worth the 610 mile RT...despite the
hour wasted at the border..in each direction ;)

I had 4 criteria to meet before purchasing

1. must be teak
2. must be under 2kUSD
3. must be great condition
4. must be within 1 days drive (here to there to here was 17 hours, which includes
three hours "on the ground" at JBLCanuk's house..thanx again Marty)

After moving to CA in 1996, I chickened out on having the moving company pack and transport my L100s and L7s, so I drove 1870 miles one way to pick them up and drive them back, 3740 miles total. While in Kalamazoo, I did buy a pair of LX300 speakers, which last year I shipped back to Kalamazoo for my son to use.

SEAWOLF97

which last year I shipped back to Kalamazoo for my son to use.

well now, if you are going to count shipping ....there were a pair of AR3's ,built in NY ....shipped all the way to the PX in VietNam ....I shipped a second time across the Pacific to Oregon and then shipped back across the ocean to Sydney last year, and who knows where they are now..:dont-know: (Sydney buyer resold them too)

NY>VN>OR>AUS............. three times across the Pacific is pretty much one trip around the world ??

LATER: I looked it up ..their total travel path has been 25,300+ miles

and my 250Ti's went from Northridge to San Francisco to Canada and to Oregon.,
by truck on each leg.

While in Kalamazoo, I did buy a pair of LX300 speakers, which last year I shipped back to Kalamazoo for my son to use.Which reminds me of one of my adventures... minimal driving and they were not JBLs, but sorta kinda relevant.

I picked up three Meyer Sound compression drivers just outside of Orlando Florida, brought them home in my carry on... one damned heavy bag that was, and you should have heard my explanation to the security team at the airport as their equipment got rather upset about the strong magnetic field etc. So anyway, I pick up these drivers in FL, I bring them back to the factory in Berkeley California, I get them refurbished, use them in my HT for a number of years and then end up selling them to a friend who coincidentally lives in Orlando... they went back via FedEx.

Central Virginia to Boston for my L5s, but I was picking my daughter up at school in upstate NY at the time so really only 400 miles out of the way but 1400 total.

Central Virginia to Connecticut for my 4345s, but I was dropping the same daughter off at a friend's in NJ at the time. About 960 miles by the route I chose . . . in the snow.

L7s three houses down the road. Google puts it at 1.6 miles round-trip.

L112s new from the local dealer 30 years ago was a round-trip of about 15 miles and they haven't been moved since!

San Jose to Portland for a pair of empty L200B Boxes, stopped at Monmouth (I think) on the way back to pick up a 4660. About 1,370 miles total, did it in 27hrs with a 3hr nap at the Medford Wallmart. Stupidest thing I think I've ever done. The L200B Boxes weren't as clean as I'd been lead to believe, and the 4660 was, well, a 4660. Never again - at least for anything less than a really clean set of 43xx monitors.

OTOH, swung up to Stockton (90mi each way) the week before last to the guys at Quicksilver Audio to pick up some woofers and test enclosures, as well as listen to their fully horn loaded system - pure pleasure, mainly due to the great new acquaintances and their excellent sounding tubes. I'd do that again just to hang out and listen to well recorded music.:D

20 miles for my 4340's about 20 years ago, cheated with the 250ti's had craters and freighter pack them and bring them to me. Atlanta to Keen NH and back was going to kill me. Best $650.00 ever spent, speakers arrived mint and they even helped me unpack them.

Ps. The price for the speakers was not so kind sill I love them.

HuMMMMM,

Lets see-dedicated trips for JBL runs only

Balto. to Chicago (twice)-Hartsfields both times

Balto to St Louis (scooped the JBL Dawg there) many years ago though-two Paragons

Balto to New York (twice) Hartsfields

Balto to Philly-not much of a trip but that was for the industrial Paragon and a cheese steak

I know there has been others but those are pretty much are the longer trips.

7 trips to visit a Kentucky scrapper for getting 14 x 4645B's,4x 2360-2446J, 12 x 15" 2235's; 18 8340 Surrounds, 22 JBL 8340's, 2 BGW 750B's, and finally 5 BGW 250E's at 4 hour round trip at 150 miles each way

Hey what can I say the guy keeps scrapping theaters; and I get the pick of the litter.
He's working on a set of deals where we'll get the picks out of 19 theater's in 2011.

Newburgh Indiana > Cleveland to deliver a complete Denon setup with 4 pairs of L100T's and a 4645B at 385 miles each way > in a 19 hour 1 day ordeal.

8 trips to get 8 different pairs of JBL Decades (L19's, L26's,L-36's, L100T's, 4312's, L110's, L200's) over the last 8 years, each at about 5 to 100 miles each way.

When my wife hears "JBL road trip" she just rolls her eyes anymore. BTW no more Decade road trips as I've gone to all theater based equipment.

In one "scrapping" trip as I got 4 4645B's I also got 2 NOS 4645B's:eek: which I kept and are now upstairs. Apparently the theater bought them, left them in their factory boxes pushed up behind a stage, and then went out of business. Opened them up and they were in perfect shape>>brand new!!. Stuff like that warms a JBL fanatic's heart! Not much of a business plan for a theater owner though.;)

I took a plane from Sandefjord in Norway to Copenhagen in Denmark to buy my pair of 4430. That is an hour and 15 minutes flight + taxi to the sellers home.
I took my wife and doughter on the trip, and stayed the weekend in Copenhagen. Wise as I am, I let my wife go shopping while I went alone to take a look at the speakers.

And going back home, the woman at the check in desk asked "how many bags do you want to send" ?
"Only two" I said, and pointed happily at the speakers ;)

I had a pair of 4315's delivered to my door in Orange County from Denver, Colorado. A seller in Las Vegas brought a 2405 tweeter to me in Anaheim (he was a bus driver and drove a HS basketball team down here for a tournament).

I drove a 200 mile roundtrip to La Habra to Escondido, California for a studio set of 4435's, 4331's, and 4x 4406's. Went to San Diego for S99's and KEF Calinda's, Redlands for 4312D's, Riverside for Altec A8's, Brea (4 miles) for Altec 601's/620 cabinet, and San Fernando Valley/LA for 4425's and 4312's. My L300's were 6 mile roundtrips, 4333B's were 20 mile roundtrips.

Being in Southern California, LA/Orange County, there's a lot of JBL and other gear within 100 miles. But there's a lot more out there beyond this radius too.

Is that one-way or round trip? Nice!!! Those just went on the bay today, right? You guys with the JBL Transporters make me sick;). My Jetta TDI gets me there and back quite economically but payload, ain't there. Still some room for some 4425's in there, right?

One way form the shop. It would have been less than that bothways from my house. These are in fact the ones listed on the bay this morning, one of my buddies from MI alerted me to them. Thanks Jeff! :D

I have never seen a pair of these that weren't beat half to death that I could afford, these are near pristine.:bouncy:

Every time this subject line pops up, I read it as "How far have you driven Your JBL's" for some reason.

Sig line is my answer to that.

In my naive youth, I found ($100) and sold ($alot) a pair of Sovereign S8Rs at a Salvation Army. The surrounds on the LE's were rotted, and I never even got to hear them. My friend and I borrowed a truck to deliver them from sacramento to los angeles. We only had adam green's jacket full of danger and the grapevine was on fire so they detoured us through a part of death valley. I want to say it was eight hours one way. I know that album pretty well now.

Annapolis, MD to Providence RI and back for my UREI 813's. About 800 miles round trip.

Annnd now those 813C's belong to me! Along with the custom B460 subwoofers you made and their BX63A crossover. So lets see.. According to the Mrs, we travelled some 1,112 miles going from Roseville, MI to Annapolis, MD and back. Spent about 18 hours on the road including traffic. Straight shot both ways, with about one hour of sleep while waiting to pick up the Uhaul trailer. Made possible by more Java Monsters than I can remember, they work!

Thank you again, Rusty!

Whoa, looks like I've revived a long since dead thread..

Across town for a couple of 2242 someone had listed on Facebook marketplace dirt cheap. He also stated while I was there that he had 2 more that werent in great shape. The dust caps were demolished in the second pair, and debris in the vc gaps, but they spec'd out for dc resistance right at the value they should be.

I got the 4 of them for $150 CAD

I flew from Christchurch, New Zealand to Los Angeles to pick up a bunch of 128's, Le5's and 044's. Does that count? Only if you actually enjoyed the voyage and the projects! Was that a tent sale, B-Stock sale, or ? Heck yes it counts. I would love to take another trip to Tokyo and be able to overload a cargo plane with Kenrick swag. Wait! Who just pinched me???

Santa Maria, Ca. to Sherman Oaks Ca. [1978] and back, to pickup a pair of 4311's in the parking lot of the Galleria in the wee hours of the morning. ~360 miles total. Santa Maria Ca. to Nadine's Music in Hollywood Ca. and then on to a stop in Northridge, [1987] and back, to pick up a pair of demo 4410's at a steal price. Had burned out tweeters but JBL did them in warranty. Drove to that shop in the back of the huge building on Balboa Blvd, where the tech replaced them on the spot. It don't get much better that that for service. Probably 425 mi round trip, not far. Should I include the many side stops at Recycled Stereo in the LA area whenever I was in town? Yes I count them as long as I bought something Lansing-wise. Then the numerous times we took the tour at Glendale. Fun times

4333A (2 pair), L65, L166 (2 pair), L100t3, L100 century, 4312, 4311,L50, L26...I exercise them all, sometimes all together- just to be silly!! It's a fun way to dust the shop-ultrasonically. Happy New Year All!! In 1983 I installed a pair of Valencias at one end of a 6500 sq. ft cabinet shop, at about 26 feet above the floor. The owner supplied his 125 watt/ch. Marantz receiver. Sources were the FM of the receiver, or a CD player in an auxiliary counter top assembly shop about 200' away in a separate and dust controlled building. The CD player output to a professional TAPCO graphic EQ which drove the 250' or so long Belden cable to the Marantz. I mention this because of your anecdote about "exercising" your JBL's. You could walk up to the Marantz and give the volume control a quick goose, which sent a huge cloud of dust blasting out of the bottom of the Altecs' bass sections while freeing rafter dust from several courses of the roof trusses. More than one visitor was left slack-jawed gawking at the spectacle. It was a fabulous sounding system with punch for days. I had bought the Valencias from a high end vintage used gear horsetrader I dealt with a lot. The pair was $175 in 1981. When the shop owner relocated the business to a nearby town, he relocated the Altec's to his house. Long Live Rock!

I always wanted a pair of piano black 250ti's, and a pair came up 4 years ago in Minnesota. I n perfect condition for 3k, so I drove 1,200 miles to pick them up. They sure can handle lots of power but at average volume the sound is a little dead. My home burnt down 2 years ago, fortunately they were in my separate man cave. Only damage was fireman throwing them around. I don't have time to repair them, so if anyone's interested......

Emma and I drive to Right Coast Recording in Columbia PA for the 4341 monitors I bought in 2007.
Emma and I drove to Morgantown, WV for some big UREI monitors at one point.
I paid a U-SHip guy and his wife to bring me a pair of L212s from FLA.
I paid a friend (and tipped well) when he brought a B-460 sub to me from Ft. Meyer, FLA when he moved to the DC area.

Now all I have is a small Honda Fit, so no more big speaker hauling by me ...
(Tho I did haul the B460 home from Stafford, VA in the Fit ...)

I drove from Enterprise, Alabama to Norfolk Virginia to pick up my L300s around 1600 miles round trip. All I had to get them on was a 1995 Buick LeSabre. After carefully measuring the back seat area I found if I took the left rear door and the back seats out they would fit. A friend of mine went with me and we took the back door off, put the speakers in and the grills and horn lens in the trunk put the door back on and arrived back safe and sound.

Not to get them, but with them:

When I transferred to VA to go to college in 1973, I wanted to take my JBL 030 in their mismatched cabinets. I had my Dad's original set in an Acousticraft (maybe) cabinet and another I'd bought as a singleton to go with it in a JBL C37 cabinet. I was traveling in a rather small BMW 1600 2dr sedan, but I figured out if I put the back seat bottom cushion in the trunk and put a piece of plywood over where it had been, My JBLs would fit with one aimed forward and one sideways. Then I figured if they were in there, why not connect them to the cassette player in the car. So I did. Roughly an 800-mile drive listening to my prized JBL in the car the whole way. Better than headphones!

Here's the car just before that trip:

About ten years ago, I drove from Pasadena, CA to San Ysidro, CA (about 3 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border), a 300 mile round trip, on a Wednesday evening to purchase a pair of never used, still-in-the-box JBL L96s. Those familiar with weekday Southern California traffic will know that this felt more like a 600 mile journey than a 300 mile one. I got home well after midnight, and the trip was well worth it, as I was miraculously the first of about 25 potential buyers that called the seller the day those were listed. They were completely intact (with the white/blue JBL tags) and in immaculate condition, other than soft surrounds which were replaced by Ken at Upland Loudspeaker. I still have them, and will never get rid of them.

In contrast (even though it's not the question posed by the OP): the shortest I've ever driven for a pair of JBLs was less than 3 miles to purchase my factory-original 4344s, which I also will never sell!

In contrast (even though it's not the question posed by the OP): the shortest I've ever driven for a pair of JBLs was less than 3 miles to purchase my factory-original 4344s, which I also will never sell!I'll hop on that shortest question you've opened up. More than a decade ago, I saw a local Craig's List ad for a pair of L7s and followed up with the seller. I'd never even heard an L7 in person, but had read with great interest the entire thread here started by T-Dome and was intrigued. Turns out the seller was a medical student living in a house two-houses down the road from me (well, one house and a horse farm), so less than a half-mile. I walked over and he hooked them up to show me they were working. He had bought them from another med student who was moving and now it was his turn. As I recall he was asking around $700 for them and I told him I was more curious than serious—at that price. Since he was in a hurry to complete his move to the next phase of his (Medical) life, he asked what I might consider paying for them. I tossed out $200, and he accepted. So I walked back to my house and got my Toyota truck to pick up the speakers.

Well, now I'm remembering, someone three houses down the street (on the other side, actually closer than the L7 house) was offering stereo equipment for free. Can't turn that down. Turned out to be a compact Denon system with two sets of small speakers, one of which was a pair of JBL 2500, I think. My daughter has them now in California. Free is good. A quarter-mile walk to get them was easy. The other pair were some small Missions, which are still around here somewhere. It all comes back to me now that my daughter had the Missions setup in her Astoria, NY apartment when her cat knocked one off the table and broke one of the banana jacks on the back. I swapped them for the JBLs and replaced the connector on the Missions. All's well that ends well.
