Hello

I recently picked up a Marantz 2230 that came with a pair of Lancer 33's. Got the whole deal for $50 and the Marantz works 100% (score!).

The Lancer 33s, however, need to be re-edged (see included pictures, there is absolutely NO edging left!). They came out of an older (now deceased) couple's garage. The daughter of the couple says she remembers them in her house while growing up, however, they were banished to the garage at some point (most likely 25+ years ago) and were never played again (same goes for the Marantz).

I've removed the speakers and am going to take them to Orange County Speaker for reedging this week (~$80 bucks for the pair).

Anyways, the cabinets are in pretty good shape. The serial on the cabinets (4006) and (3905) seem rather low. Also, I've seen a few pictures of other Lancer 33's and they all have that white-ish mesh front, however, mine are a dark brown. In terms of drivers, I only found a number on the back of a cone (48399P) but I'm going to assume these are LE8's?

If anyone has anymore information like year or exact specs, I would really appreciate any extra knowledge towards them. I plan on getting these puppies up and running so that I can enjoy my turntable through them :-)

You might dig around in the library a bit.

Here's a page from the 1962 catalog (http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/jbl/catalogs/1962/page22-23.jpg) with a little info on the Lancer 33.

Drivers look to be in great shape. Be sure and tell OC that you want the foam on the BACK of the cone.

I'm not up on the vintage stuff, but I think there were LE8s with Lansaloy surrounds. They were kind of cream colored and got hard with age as opposed to disintegrating as yours have.

Maybe one of the vintage buffs can give you a rundown on the various iterations.

As far as I know: These are LE8T equivalents. They were used in this speaker, and also in applications for the Navy. The only difference is the rear cosmetics.

My Lancer 33s had been painted white (ugh) but the grille cloth was tan. Don't know serials off top of my head, I'll try to see if I can pull them tonight, but since Grumpy is comin' over I might not have time.
