Are the TI10K speakers better than L7's?

For the price . . . they should be! But I've never heard them and don't know anyone who owns them. Always looked more "harman" than "JBL" to me. :dont-know:

If you really want to know (may I encourage you?), they're currently less than half-price from Harman via their Ebay store as "re-furbs". http://ebayitem.com/180575356885

I suspect the real question here might be are they better than the 250ti . . .

and I think the "real" answer is that the Ti10K will embarrass both the L7 and 250Ti, irrefutably, above 1.2kHz where those much updated Ti drivers kick in, and below 1.2kHz will depend on what kind of bass response one prefers...where we enter the territory of sometimes opposing descriptors like tight, articulate, musical, deep, chest rocking, etc., that spark so much debate among audio enthusiasts...IMMHO of course

My observation is that JBL has historically been known primarily for bass quality, deep bass quality, and it's followers (primarily) prize that attribute above others, so you're likely to get responses that are biased toward the iconic LF output from a high quality >12" or larger driver and corresponding cabinet over the MF/HF capabilities...and the fact that the Ti10K was made in Denmark and uses, OMG, dare I speak the words...a FRENCH tweeter!!

OK, I have my riot gear on now...:D

Ah, we've been down this road before. :drive:

To paraphrase: The Ti10K has a better cabinet, better crossovers, better drivers, better adaptability, better drivability, better linearity, and better sound than the 250Ti.

We didin't see it much if at all in NA, but it was meant to be with the TiK Sub for those who really needed the bass boost--you know, the pre-2000 TiK Sub that looked like the Revel 15" sub before there was a Revel SUB15 in 2003.

Even without the sub, its two 8" drivers put out plenty of clean, articulate bass. But I still love the LE14H-x driver (L250, 250Ti, PS1400, 1400 Array) better, so that's one point in a 250Ti's favor.

You're repeating yourself!! ;)

But you're substantially correct. The top three drivers on the Ti10K are discernibly better than the top three on the L7. As for the bottom end, that's not so clear. The LE120H-1 is an easy match for the dual eights on the Ti10K. It would be cool but look very odd to have the 12" driver in place of the dual eights, since the cabinet would have a very pregnant look to it, and it would lose its organic, Scandinavian beauty.

harman still has that singleton Ti10k on eBay for $899. Don't know what good one would be. I believe that's less than half MSRP. FWIW, the library here shows MSRP on the L7 at $1000 each back in the mid-90s. Anyone know the original MSRP for the Ti10k?

I had priced them back in the late 90's and I think they were around 5k for a pair. Then I found a pair of 250's.

Very nice! If a nice pair of Ti10k’s in black showed up for sale, I’d have a hard time saying no. Unfortunately, they are even rarer than the maple. Also, I use them in a mixed music/video media room, and the Ti center is really a mediocre sounding center channel :(. Love yours, and enjoy the music. My experience with my Ti2K’s is that I have to put them right up against the back wall to fill in the bass, which they’re OK with (they don’t get boomy like rear ported speakers do). Is this your experience with the 10k’s, or do they work best for you out from the wall?
