Any thoughts on newer outdoor speakers? Have a friend wants a pair for his deck/pool patio.

IMO, most all should be paired with a sub. I buy cheaper powered units and leave them under a grill cover in the warmer months. At least I did, until I got covers for my 4560's. I still haven't brought them in yet.

The company sonance makes some pretty good sounding outdoor speakers and I've sued them for several years now. Durable and small, I'd love to use my L19's and L26's ouside but as you know it's not practical size wise and I wouldn't want to risk ruining the cabinets or drivers when the weather turns.

I have a pair of JBL model S38IIAW (I think that is the model) outside on my deck for the hot tub which sound pretty darn good. They have been there thru 3 winters-so far so good.

Control 29s or Control 30s.

I've had both and they are tough as nails. The 30s are more directional so it they're gonna be used nearfield, ya got a pretty small sweet spot, OR ya gotta kick up the HF. I have 30s under the rear eaves, slightly angled and with a little treble boost, and they sound great over most of the back yard. The neighbor a block over REALLY likes 'em when I crank 'em up. He always lets me know how well he can hear 'em.
